texting while driving is inherently dangerous and should be outlawed...it shouold also be outlawed in our schools...students shopuld not be allowed to have cell phones in the classrooms unless they are in a back pak out of reach..

Texting behind the wheel is a big problem and will continue to cause more and more accidents. Young drivers especially don't need something else to distract them as they are just learning how to drive.
Texting while driving should absolutely be outlawed. In fact, I hate to say it, but the use of cell phones without a hands-free device should also. I had a car accident a few years ago because I was on my phone but luckily was not injured.
I agree with George that students should not be allowed to have cell phones in the classroom unless they are out of reach, and that they should be off during class.

I agree 100% and even believe that cell phones while driving should be banned. People are too distracted with their phone conversations to remember where they are going. At the last minute they remember they need to turn and cut in front of vehicles or exit driveways without the lease bit of concern with what's going on around them.

It should be expanded to include no talking on cell phones while driving.

No question! Texting (and cell phone use) should be banned, outlawed. illegal, etc. A person cannot do 2 things at once, if one of them is driving a vehicle.

While I don't think passing a law will make a big difference in preventing accidents caused by texting, I think it will send a message about the dangers associated with driving distracted and gain more attention to this important problem.
I am working with business owners to protect them and their companies from the exposure caused by not having their own corporate policies, practices and education regarding using cell phones while driving. With or without laws covering the practice, companies are exposed to laws suits, much higher insurance premiums, loss of business, workers compensation, etc.
It makes sense to me to educate all drivers about all distractions and for companies, governments and other organizations to develop their own rules covering them. Some education and improved work practices can greatly increase safety with little or no loss of productivity.

I would absolutely support this and also the abolition of cell phone use while driving and also (although this question wasn't asked) a ban on pitt bulls like in Miami Dade county.

Feel good legislation over existing laws? Erratic driving, I believe, is already a ticketable offense. What's next? No multiple sneezing while driving? No screaming children in the back seat? No spousal arguments while vehicle in motion? Enforce the existing laws and save us some money that would be spent in creating this new legislation. It is rare not see someone someone on the phone, either talking or texting, driving at 15 mph on Glades and or straddling two lanes on my short commute home. Stop 'em and ticket 'em! And possibly save a life. Waiting for a new law is not a necessity.
absolutly...............people are swirving all over the roads

I agree 100% percent with this law whether it is texting or talking on a cell phone. I have been run onto the shoulder of the road twice by drivers texting or talking on their cell.

I think the response has been great to this poll. Over a 10% response on the poll itself. Am I wrong?

It should absolutely be made illegal to text while driving, or talk on a cell phone. It is also dangerous to enter data into a GPL while driving, or read a map.

Florida has a deadly combination............older (slower response time
drivers) combined with texting.........The new law will save lives........

I would support a law banning cell phone use in cars, as well. Though I would consider hands-free cell phone use in cars.

I completely agree with Diane Cohen! Texting and/or using a hand held cell phone while drive is an incredidble hazard and sould be banned.
