I was just wondering... Is there any particular reason why almost all the people on this list are slightly less than 'virtuous'? I think it's great that they are doing what they are to bring people's attention to the reality of the seal massacre, but personally, I would really have liked to see someone on this list who isn't a Playboy model, dating a Playboy model, a former Playboy model, or something similar.

Don't get me wrong - I could care less about what people do with their personal lives and careers - if someone stands up for a good cause, whatever else they do is really of no consequence. But - conservative America (and conservative everywhere, for that matter), those people who love their meat and thanksgiving turkeys, they do care. When they see spokespeople for some or other cause, they associate that cause with those particular celebrities. And this is where I have to point out, again, something that many people seem to criticise about Peta - their methods of bringing the message across.

I don't think shock and titillation are appropriate means of highlighting the issues. Many people's reactions to shocking imagery is that they shut off (like a mini-trauma - their minds lock the shock away where it can't disturb them any longer). So using shock and sex to bring attention to the cause does about just as much harm as it does good, I think.

Education does not need to brought about by terror, it needs to be facilitated through the use of cold, hard facts. The truth (with proof that it is the truth) is all that is necessary to educate people.

With all that said, I'm sure I've come across as rather anti-Peta, which I have to clarify - I am not. I am a happy vegan who does as much as I can from my African homeland to support Peta's endeavours. I support all that Peta does, I just feel that some of it can be done in slightly less distasteful ways.

I, personally, would much prefer Jorja Fox, and am disappointed she hasn't been held in the same light as these others (polls, through Peta2's facebook ads, etc.), albeit, they are well known. She is known for her animal advocacy, and is not quite known for being "less than virtuous."

I" must agree with you, Jorja Fox would have been worth voting for. Lets move past the sex sells to someone with a caring heart and strong mind. I can't in good Consciousness vote here at all. Come one Peta, use some ethics in other areas as well

Morrissey! Morrissey! Morrissey!

[On 27 March 2006, Morrissey released a statement that he would not include any concert dates in Canada on his world tour that year — and that he supported a boycott of all Canadian goods — in protest against the country's annual seal hunt, which he described as a "barbaric and cruel slaughter".] -Wikipedia
