Do you think Jordan Peterson should be allowed to speak at Calgary's Arts Commons?

The 300 people who don't want to hear him speak, can simply stay at home and study, they clearly need it (I advise researching Dunning Kruger with an open mind). Go visit a friend, excersize or even better, do something useful. Go pick up trash from the sidewalks, allow a homeless person to take a shower in your home or hold your breath untill the rest of the world agrees with you.

The tactics of left wingers are so transparent. Play the victim and label your enemies as some brand of evil. It’s a tried and true formula, but that I suspect is losing traction, especially when met by the likes of JBP who lends clarity to freedom of expression, a bulwark of our long fought for democracy.

When Dr. Peterson was blocked in Edmonton at the Citadel Theatre, a taxpayer funded organization, the media coverage increased his exposure. The result, many more were treated to his common sense approach to life. Any type of description that categorizes him as misogynistic, homophobic or whatever is a smear campaign.
His lectures capture audiences that the SJW's can only dream of.
Do not make the same shameful mistake as the lefties in Edmonton.
Sell out his current location, and need a bigger venue. If anyone tries to shut down his lecture, using anything other than peaceful means, they should be arrested and prosecuted under Canadian Human Rights Legislation. Enough of these fools.

    Follow up question:

Who would make the better PM?

    Jordan Peterson

    Justin Trudeau

  • Bill - 6 years ago

He should also be pointed and laughed at

Glad to see there are some smart people in Calgary commenting on here. Can we please do away with these lefties and make room for liberals?

These poll results give me some faith in humanity again. JBP is not who the media and “academics” want us to think he is. Identity politics and SJW leftist ideologies are hopefully in their death throes.

The left wing neo marxist clique are blatantly violating the human right of free speech in Canada , part.of the tyrannical.behaviour of marxist regimes ( ie Soviet Union, etc) , to delibereately muzzle.dissent , persecute and publicly slander/ discredit disenting.voices, and should.face.consequences as actual human rights violators in Canada. They threaten harma.losses boycotts etc.to people.and.places.that do not comply with thier dogma driven.demands.
They are.a.far.more damaging and.pernicious harm to freedom and democracy than.to simply refuse to thier.demands....they should be facing.consequences for.their human rights violations.and.the malocious slander and.persecution they inflict.and.the.climate of.fear.and inhibition they deliberately create in.a.country of.democraic.and.free.speech values and.rights.
    I support.and admire.the managments brave decision that will.let.the event go.ahead ,championing free.speech and saying no.to.left wing oppresion
    The poll.here favored free.speech over left.wing.mob.censorship 95% to 3%.
    It would.be.good.to.take videos and pics of some.of thesen3 % "progressive ' fanatic mob that is exerting.thier tyrannical.control on speech in.Canada and.show up.to.muzzle and.obstruct.dissenting.events....take.and publish the acts and.pictures of.the self.appointed censors

It's not so much about stopping his speaking, it is to stop you, me and us hearing what he has to say. SJW censorship. This is how fascism works. First used on the right, fascism is now a tool of the lefties.

my dad fought the nazi to make sure freedom of speech would prevail. before he died he said the fight is not over and it looks like he was right.

I’m shocked that so many people were willing to attach their names to that ridiculous letter. Who wrote that rubbish, was it Natasha Chaykowski, the first name on the list? No one who has listened to what Dr. Peterson says, instead of what is said about him, can believe he is misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, racist, toxic, or incites violence. How absurd. Whoever wrote that letter or signed it should be ashamed of themselves.

  • patrick - 6 years ago

bought his book yesterday. it is utter insanity that the left labels him the way they do.

they do it out of fear. tgey can't debate his ideas so they try to illegitimize his ideas by throwing baseless labels at him

The SJWs behind that petition want us to believe that there are hundreds of people opposed to letting Peterson speak, but their web form does nothing to verify the unique identity of any signatory. Could just as easily be a group of 6 people with a random name generator website, filling it up with fake names.

These people need to learn to live and let live.

Great comments everyone. I must say I'm fascinated with the current SJW and left leaning political/identity groups current approach. These very organizations 30 years ago were slamming the christian coalition (with the free speech ideal) in the 80's when the CC were trying to ban rap music (and hip hop for that matter) with cursing/sexual content and limit sex education in public schools. What was their message then? If you don't like it, don't buy it. If it offends you, don't listen to it. Restricting sex education should not be allowed because of the opinion or moral standing of a religious ideal or group. The government should not make political or social policy because of a single group was the message back then, heavily salted with the hate rhetoric they reference today. Great irony as now our current Liberal government has capitulated to these radical minority political lobby groups by evoking their ideals through public policy on our country? (Compelled speech)

Jordan Pederson's message does not have an ounce of hate to it. It is strongly opinionated and influenced with a remarkable spectrum of historical/sociological/physiological literature, medical research, and professional experience. His passion for his position and beliefs could be interpreted negatively, which he has admitted in some of his interviews, but that cannot, and should not, constitute hate. People have to start applying intelligence to their opposition of Jordan Pederson, and not resort to nasty expressions of anger just because someone has a different opinion and or world view. These people accusing Jordan Pederson of hate speech express far more anger and hatred in their speech and actions. Lets face it, I wouldn't want to debate this guy, calling him names is way easier.

Which leads to my final point, those who oppose Jordan Pederson are too afraid to talk to him and debate him, so the easy thing to do is label him and try to silence him with "hate speech" rhetoric. Will the left change their message from 30 years ago in order suit their agenda? I really hope not.

Glad to see the show is still on, let free speech prevail, even if there's a few curse words in there....

Anyone who describes him as misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic and racist hasn't listened to a thing he's said. It's truly appalling this is even a question when one of the world's brightest minds is being belittled and not heard for the wise words he's sharing so bravely.

Why is a common sense Person offensive? Why is Arts Common tax payer funded? Maybe they should listen to what he has to say, they might grow up a little bit.

  • Denis Mainville - 6 years ago

(Should he be allowed to speak) only if we believe in freedom of speech

  • Doug McKegney - 6 years ago

I enjoy watching the left set traps for themselves and then spring them. Their silliness helps Peterson immeasurably. Keep it up!

  • Tyler - 6 years ago

Nothing better than the branch of trans/homophobic racist and mysoginistic. Wheres the evidence of that ? At all? You can't throw those specious accusations around.

  • Paul - 6 years ago

I think it is a truly wonderful thing to see people actually interested in the current state of social politics. The more debate we have as a nation will only help bring the issues to light that currently reside mainly in the dark halls of academia . Public awareness of the underlying ideologies might just improve our selection of politicians and set our country in the most sensible direction.

All great comments so far. I really can't understand why he is labeled by some as dangerous. I have really enjoyed listening to his pod casts and YouTube lectures. One of the great thinkers of this generation.

  • Dan - 6 years ago

Not sure why the media is constantly attacking this man's character with biased opinions, if you don't like what he's saying don't go to his speeches, it's as simple as that. We live in a free Country, freedom of speech is part of that. Just because someone says something that you don't agree with doesn't mean it's hate speech. A very small minority is acting like they are the majority that matters, it's getting completely out of hand.

  • Ryan McCourt - 6 years ago

These would-be censors make Calgary's visual arts scene look idiotic, internationally.

  • Nathan - 6 years ago

It doesn't matter, his "extremely loud detractors" are a pathetic minority of people engaging with him. His audience will find him and listen intently nomatter what platform he speaks from. Hundreds of signatures is nothing compared to his millions of fans.

  • Georgia Albright - 6 years ago

Those who call Dr. Peterson "toxic" or "transphobic" or "racist" have obviously never heard him speak. It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.

  • Yags - 6 years ago

I thimk all those who feel threatened by Peterson are simply affraid of the truths he brings forward. He's dangerous in the sense he's calling out the injustices and the hypocrites in our abusive and collapsing civilization. He must be heard.

  • Eugene Eklund - 6 years ago

Jordan Peterson is an awesome debater and speaker. Whether one agrees with him or not, this is true. Maybe we need to ask the question: can we have free speech and political correctness at the same time? If not, which would you choose?
