If apple really wants to change things around
It really needs to make drastic changes like top model limit at 1500$ aud
    Better antenna
    Camera upgrade
    Performance update minimum 10%
    Battery upgrade to 4000 mah
More control over privacy from third party apps by inbuilt features and prevents unnecessary data shared to or supplied to companies like google just an example
Design is great but material used in iPhone isn’t that great for processor as ventilation is an issue though.nothing drastic happened like note 7 but still if you can improve why not do it
People notice and upgrade 5g connectivity would be a bonus but it’s in such early stages wouldn’t be a biggie
Better accessories like fast charger and just common stuff like that to stand out which will highly boost sales

  • Joe - 5 years ago

realistically this is what I would like to see out of next years iPhone

    -usb c port
an apple designed usb c charger so fast charging would hopefully be available straight out of the box and I can have the same cord for both my macbook, iphone, and if I ever bother to buy a new ipad

    -smaller notch
so we don't have a a repeat of the same design three iterations in a row plus the face ID improvements that will come along with it

    -Siri revamp
reworked from the ground up now that ios 13 will be a complete redesign and apple now has former google AI engineers working for them

    -NATIVE DARK MODE PLEASE

The problem with Apple is...it’s competing with other companies, rather than focusing on its R&D .....give people what’s necessary don’t label innovation stickers and tell them to adjust ....iphone se or 5s has a gr8 body design ratio, that with a Face ID can be a phenomenal device plus if it costs decent...it’ll be amazing (remember I’m saying decent not even lesser or cheap)...the flagships are good but not gr8...one of the major reasons people are switching to android devices like Samsung or pixel even though they love iOS......................the point is smartphones were meant to help people to function through the day to get major tasks done so that they don’t have to open their Mac or laptops everytime but it’s different on Apple’s flagship phones nowdays...rather than a decent pair of colours like they started with, they now come in all sorts of crap colours trust me no one cares if your device is blue or red and one last thing they really need to do something with the notch I mean it’s really cool what they’ve done I really admire it but ask yourself are you really going to buy a 1400$ device with a some sorta infinity display ...which doesn’t even show your battery percentage

    - iPhone SE size (for people with smaller hands, and a phone that fits into women's jeans pockets)
    - aluminum back (replace the glass back - just because glass breaks)
    - single back camera integrated into the phone's body (no protuberant camera - greater risk of damage)
    - single front camera (get rid of the notch - cleaner design)
    - some sort of home button with touch id, it can be placed behind the front screen so for those who wish to continue to use face id could still have a seamless glass display (because of security reasons - face id you can be identified easier)
    - get rid of the swiping up to unlock after face id (assistive touch is helping as a home button)
    - some sort of connection port that uses the MagSafe features
    - the phone jack (just because you don't need another thing to charge)
    - charge the phone via light (either UV light from the sun or wi-charge or similar - use renewable energy)
    - and more right to repair for Apple products (so if you are able you can replace the part you need, instead of buying a new product - less electronic products on landfills)

    Battery

  • Jay - 5 years ago

    My top 3:

Improve battery by 30-50%. I am willing to pay the price if the battery lasts at least 4 hours longer.

Durability - I want a screen that doesn't scratch or crack and a chassis that is strong and hard. I should be able to use my phone without a case or screen guard. I am willing to pay the price for this.

Price - Too pricey for what I get currently.

Make iPhone se an all screen iPhone, no button. So basically like the iPhone x, so that a small phone packs a large screen on a small device. That would be great for us that can't carry a big phone because of the line of work we do

  • Sam - 5 years ago

Smaller phones with wrap around screen or something close to that. My son has a galaxy and I actually love the fingerprint on the back and the retinal scanner on the front. Oh let’s also not forget about the camera. I am a loyal iPhone user since the 4 came out but no matter what the camera on iPhones haven’t been that great. If you zoom in the pic ends up grainy and pixelated. Also the design of the phone. I love my iPhone but it’s boring. I have the X now and I loved it at 1st and still like it but I’ve seen other phones with way better looks and more options for cases. And I get the sleek glass look but I’m a klutz like many of us and ugh if you drop the phone and crack the screen it cost $180 for someone at an Apple store who barley knows what they’re doing to change it and then mess up your phone. Lastly your apple store employees need better training. They told me that the issue I was having (text msgs were out of date order and none of my app including voicemail and email and texting were working) that the issue was with my SIM card and they haven’t ever heard of my issue before. They sent me downstairs to my provider store (I was in a mall) and my provider called apple support for me and apple support even said this issue had been going on. Apple support tech then called the store for me and sent me back up there just for the store employee to send me back downstairs again to my provider with a different excuse. Finally my provider had the apple support tech call my cellphone and also call the store and had me walk back up to apple store and had a manager waiting outside the doors for me. They still never listened to the support tech but gave me a brand new phone and apple support called me to set up my phone again and I’m sorry it still didn’t have all my stuff on it but I guess close enough.

Foldable screen, USB C and 5G, but I don’t think we will see any of that till 2020.

An SE2 would make a good stop gap for 2019, and get back mid price consumers for Apple

  • Steven Baensch - 5 years ago

For me the current iPhone lineup just doesn't look cutting edge.
    1. Bezels are the same on each edge. This helps to transport the 'all-display' impression. On the downside is that bezels on some edges - especially left and right - are thicker than they have to be. So the way forward is to reduce the bezel thickness on all edges.
    2. The notch is massive. It must be reduced to become almost invisible. This would also help to release an overall smaller iPhone again.
    3. The overall casing has to support a narrower device. The rounding on the left and right side make the whole device wider. The new iPad Pro has has a much more edged shape. I think an edged shape really helps to make the device narrower. For me the iPad Pro's edges are too sharp so I would welcome slightly rounded edges - not completely rounded sides but actually rounded edges.

It’s absurd that we lifelong Apple users are forced to either succumb to a humongous, carpel tunnel inducing phone, or have to leave Apple... charge whatever you want but bring the SE size back!

  • Caligirl45 - 5 years ago

I think Apple should focus on making Siri better, more software features, maybe a stylus that comes with the phone for people that need it, 5g connectivity that will actually work, make iPhones performance fast and not lag or be slow, maybe a different design for lock screens, make the messeging app have more color bubbles for texting to choose from and get rid of the plain green and grey for the messeging app! Make the messeging app more better by allowing i phone users to be able to liven up their text messeging by having more themes to choose from. Apple will have allot more happy customers if we can have our phones more fun and really cool like some of the other phones out there! Trust me Apple, I know a thing or two about this kind of stuff, so if u want happier customers, u might want to really consider everything I've said in this comment. Oh and give us more keyboard features to play with instead of just the default keyboard that comes with the phone. Some people like to make their phones more cool and I'm one of them.

Siri should be forefront of everything right now!!! It’s so important the company should be named Siri, Inc. by 2032.

Voice is so important and it just sucks right now. Just bought a HomePod and remembered how bad Siri is!!

Amazon has THOUSANDS of people workin on Alexa. Apple has a mere fraction of that!

Why, in 2019 now soon... can’t I ask Siri to open some general phone function setting and she responds like an idiot. Step it up guys or you’re going to become Windows Vista!

There is probably a lack of interdepartmental collaboration happening there. I mean wasn’t Siri an acquisition??

I suspect that phone will soon be replaced by wearable tech being the focal point (main computer on the wrist or in a pocket/ pursue) and the display being what ever you are closest too (watch face, eyeglasses, tv, car screen, etc.).

There will be cel phones in 5 years, just not as many, and their importance will be less dominant in our lives because wearable tech will be the dominant feature.

  • Erica - 5 years ago

Size! I would absolutely buy the new iPhones if they didn't keep getting bigger. I need a phone I can keep in my jacket pocket at work but every new phone is bigger. It's unnecessary. Go back to the iPhone 4 size please!

  • Adolfo - 5 years ago

How about a longer battery life and better pricing . The pricing for the XS max is outrages .

  • Jon - 5 years ago

I can’t separate price from performance. Certainly, I don’t expect performance to suffer at lower or even stagnant prices. And I am “unanimous in this” that small performance increases should reflect such substantially higher prices. iPhones have about reached their limit with pricing, I think. For that matter, all cell phones may have reached the point where they are overpriced gadgets. I don’t expect my phone to cost as much or more than my iPad or laptop or desktop. When we get to that point, Apple, as much of a fan as I am, is trading on the assumption that its fan base will continue to pay a premium just for the name and not for the quality. My other “other” is that I’m of the opinion that cell phones should first of all be great phones. I don’t want the “phone” part of my iPhone to be peripheral to other gadgets, such as the camera or the apps. I want the phone on my iPhone to be the best phone possible of all the cell phones out there. Camera and all the rest should take second, third, fourth, etc, place. That doesn’t seem to be the direction Apple is going.

  • David Peterson - 5 years ago

Agree with many of the comments here - time for Apple to start making phones smaller again. My last upgrade was (reluctantly) an iPhone 7, because I didn't want to compromise on power, but I have not grown to love the bigger size, and that's a big reason I haven't moved to an X - they're all so freaking huge!

A notched phone the size of a 5 (or even a 4) would be awesome. Happy to compromise on some fancy phone features, especially if it means the camera bump can go.

  • Pavel Supruniuk - 5 years ago

I would like to be able to buy an iPhone for my kids: not a EUR 750 or even 1000 huge flagship device, but something much simpler to be easily lost, shattered or stolen at school. A contemporary 5C with Animoji support (yes, my daughters would love to use them, unlike me). Plastic back would be even better than glass. No wireless charging, simpler main camera, LCD screen, A11 processor, thicker body. Edge-to-edge display, ForceTouch, even FaceID are NOT required, — in-screen TouchID (or even no touch ID) is fine.

    What's required:
    - cheaper price - something like EUR 350-450 price;
    - cheaper body and front glass repairs (kids drop phones much more frequently);
    - water and splash resistance (like iPhone 7 or 8);
    - bigger battery (kid's play Minecraft, and constantly use all those AR games with 3d masks and stuff) - their phones are never charged more than 20%;
    - good selfie camera, but iPhone 7 grade main camera (they make 10 times more selfies, than regular photos).
    - small size - something not bigger than iPhone 8, because, yes, Apple, kids' hands are small. Maybe a SE sized phone, with a 4.5" screen. It would be great if this phone would be compatible with millions of cases (including ridiculous ones), that are already on the market.
    - playful colors (including pink) or designs based on Disney's cartoons (not that I need it, but it would not let these phones cannibalize sales of XRs).

Apple should target middle class users as well by reducing the prices so that they can also feel the smooth technology rather than using the cheap android phones. Also battery can also be improved but ya don’t forget Samsung note 7 disaster as well so it should be in the manner it doesn’t blow but ya should give the 1 and half day back up.
Most imp Apple user miss the headphone jack please if possible take care of that however we still love your AirPod (earphones).

Please focus on the functionality of the phone, making and receiving calls. Often times my iPhone does not ring or the voicemail comes in much later than the actual call arrived. Many people I work with use the iPhone as a business phone and we all complain about the ability to make and receive calls. We love all the other stuff that comes with the iPhone, but if the actual phone features don't improve, I feel like we'll have to drop the iPhone for business.

DESIGN & PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS TO FIX (iPhone is a 512 GB XS (DNPXC7UØKPFX):
Several times after charging I must execute a "hard restart."
Sometimes while taking a picture my camera will pulse in and out of focus.
Occasionally I cannot easily access the Control Center.
Sometimes just holding it "wrong" it triggers unexpected actions.

    NEW SOFTWARE FEATURES TO ADD:
ALIASES. I would like Application Aliases to store and access some apps through different folders.

  • Scott - 5 years ago

Find it bizarre size was not a choice, that’s the main thing, the XR is just too big

  • Duncan Weir - 5 years ago

Lower the price to at least 800$ use USB-C, and cut costs by removing un needed features such as stainless steel borders. don't make the notch smaller if it still needs a notch. if its gonna have less notch have no notch. and reduce the price of the xr. This is my dream iPhone lineup:

    2019
    iPhone 8 - $449, $549
    iPhone XR - $649
    iPhone 11 - $799, $899

If the iPhone 11 is able to be this much cheaper, there is just no room for the iPhone XS. that's why I don't have it here, but apple can justify this by dropping this prices even more on the iPhone 8. and with this I have my dream lineup for the following year.

    2020
    iPhone 8 - $399, $499
    iPhone XR - $599
    iPhone 11 - $699, $799
    iPhone 11s - $799, $899

    and so forth

    2021

    iPhone XR - $449
    iPhone 11 - $599, $699
    iPhone 11s - $749, $849
    iPhone 12 - $849, $949

The price goes up here because the iPhone 12 will likely have a lot of big advancements. I think that the price is ok to slightly increase at this point because other iPhones are still cheaper and have a lot of similar features.

    2022

    iPhone 11 - $449, 549
    iPhone 11s - $599, $699
    iPhone 12 - $749, $849
    iPhone 12s - $849, $949

  • Mike burnett - 5 years ago

You said in 2007 that the 3.5 inch screen was the perfect size phone and you was right, Make the perfect size phone again, stop trying to make what the people want (Because they don’t know) stop selling phones to make money and start making money to innovate.
I prefer the size of the 4 but have been living with the SE. When I can no longer use that I will have to look at other options . I need a cell Phone that I can carry in my pocket.
Prices have never been a huge concern for me , I feel like you get what you pay for with Apple in most cases, although they are starting to push the limit . A new modern updated iPhone 4 would be the premium $1000 phone for me, not the X!

  • Timmie - 5 years ago

The real reason iphones are selling poorly this year is because of awful cellular reception in low signal situations. Returns for refund are through the roof from this, and the word of mouth “stay away” warnings amongst friends are causing huge damage to sales as well as Apple’s reputation.

iPhones were already way behind on this metric before the debacle of these new 2018 iphones. The media is too scared of Apple retaliation to take on the story, or perhaps doesn’t understand the issue properly (speed tests have nothing to do with this - it’s basic reception which is an antenna gain + midden & baseband software channel switching algorithm issue).

This is the only issue preventing myself and countless friends from upgrading to very expensive devices. Apple not only needs to fix this, but they need to deliver class leading performance such as they do already on every other score. Why don’t they care about this ?!?!!

  • Dan Serban - 5 years ago

Despite all the PR the new Iphones are not the heritage of Steve Jobs. I got the new XR and as a Phone, I hate it.
Sure, it has a good camera, good software a good screen. The problem is the design. Is like they tried to bloaded with everything without design control.
I seriously doubt, Jobs would have approved the protudring camera or the thickness and weight.
The Iphone of old, was elegant, innovative, avant garde. The new ones are just expensive.

Price, first and foremost. If Apple increases the price again it’ll be a clear sign they care only about the high end, high fashion, high priced market. At that stage 99% of us can switch to alternatives.

They should bring back the SE size. Many customers don’t like the larger format. There is a huge market for the smaller form factor and upgrading the internals. This could also become the best option for developing markets because the price could be much lower. Even luxury brand cars have low end options that many people purchase.

Bring a successor of the SE model with the same screen size or form factor for a reasonable price. There are people who use the phone to call other people as THE major application, believe it or not. For those an iPhone SE is a perfect phone. They don’t need all the fancy highlights offered by a big screen and top of the range processors. My daily usage of my iPhone 5s is less than 17 minutes. Why would I ever pay 800 dollars or more for that?
