Is permanence a positive or negative on social media

We the user should have more control over the permanence of posting. Not only is a permanent post a waste of space over time, we have changing attitudes in time. What is stored in memory somewhere is only useful when we need to refer to it over and over as a point of reference.

For example, from a personal and political stand point, what we said 10 years ago, should not reflect what we believe in saying today. Our attitudes change either because we were misinformed or we didn't have enough data to support our view at that time or the environment in which we live has changed such that an attitude needed to be changed for a better solution that we didn't have before.
