    Without Yates they would be 10 games under .500, no chance at a wild card and attendance would be reduced by 15% because they would be losing again.. So i would say they are not that stupid.

    They just spent $300 mil. on Machado. If the guy is the best reliever in baseball you need to ride that pony to the end. The season is barely halfway.

    The Padres are right on the cusp of being a whole lot better over these next couple of years. Their starting pitching is still awfully shaky. Most of their rotation would still be in AA or AAA in the Dodgers or .Yankees organizations. What they really need is an established, consistent starting pitcher to stabilize their very young staff

    Yates is very good, but IMO he's no Trevor Hoffman. Strike while the iron's hot, trade him while his value is at its peak.

    I will say they will not trade him during the season. But will look to deal him in the off season. I believe the return could be higher especially if they get someone to take Wil Myers in the deal.
