Would you sacrifice sound quality for a cheaper HomePod?

I would like an Amazon Alexa tool - something that can actually handle what I tell it to do, with Siri.
I was hoping Siri would catch up... now my whole house has Alexa... Alexa switches my TV inputs, tells me pirate jokes, and can tell me who is at the front door via my cameras...
When will Siri catch up? Where is the Siri Echo? Siri Cube?

I'd rather have a homepod without the smart features and Siri, just a wifi speaker controlled through an app and on-device controls.

Homepod's value would be greater if Apple offered other speakers that you can connect to your TV.

It really depends. I would love to have an Apple Speaker with Great Sound Quality and AirPlay 2 but that would skip the need for the higher end processor as it would not need to be a smart speaker. I don't like the idea of having to pay a premium price to good a great sounding speaker from Apple with AirPlay 2 because they insist it needs to also be a Smart Speaker which I don't want and won't use. That is way so far I have stayed with my Bose Bluetooth speaker though it has its downsides since it does not have AirPlay (1 or 2).

If iOS 13 turns the apple watch into a wrist-bound personal assistant that is capable of more of the same things that the HomePod is, ie, playing music on a given airplay speaker, or running shortcuts that do so while also performing other actions, then I don’t suppose I much care whether Apple releases a smaller speaker for cheaper. That said, I would absolutely buy smaller, cheaper homepods for my less-used rooms. I don’t need amazing sound quality in my bedroom, but I would still like to be able to play music in there, and if the device used also allowed me to issue commands or ask questions, all the better.

I’d prefer good sound quality myself but I think more choice at more interesting price points will benefit the eco system as a whole.

I want an option that says, make it sound much better, even if it is more expensive!

Just give me a $40 used Airport Express off of eBay. Thanks to Apple they are now Airplay 2 compatible. I'll connect whatever speakers sound good to me because "sound quality" is largely subjective. I don't need Siri or another smarhome hub.

I'm not saying Home Pod isn't a great device. But I think Apple needs to have more entry-level offerings to entice people to join the Apple ecosystem. The modern Apple was built on $.99 iTunes songs.

I’d like to see this realized as a portable, Siri enabled, Beats speaker. HomePod branding takes no hit in sound quality, and the market gets what it wants.

Only if Siri becomes more useful. Otherwise sound sets it apart from the competition.

No, Apple should scale down its margins and get off his high horses and go as low as it can. It is a niche product but could lead to new customers in other brands or stick where it is and open up for other music brands

Only as a secondary device! But you must preserve the quality of the original.

HomePod quality is phenomenal unlike what Mark says for a speaker of that size with its capabilities - and it has way more than just sound quality to its repertoire... as for less expensive yes without sacrificing its current sound quality - but a better speaker at its current price point and this generation becoming the lesser expensive version definitely!

A smaller, cheaper HomePod for the bathroom would be great! But standard HomePod for other rooms is still preferred.

If they want to sell more, make them more available in counties where the HomePod is now absent. If I want an HomePod, I need to drive to Germany. Sell? Make it an easy sell.

Considering the sound quality is currently the only thing the Home Pod has going for it (Siri commands are a joke, with all the limitations there are/lack of ability to connect to tv, etc), I would say no. Taking away the sound quality would just make it another average speaker. Not worth it.

No. HomePod is great. What gets in the way is no Spotify support from Siri.

I have 3 HomePods all of which I bought 2nd hand on eBay for around £200. No problems and I feel like I got a deal. With those and a Libratone Zipp I have synced sound throughout the downstairs of my house.

Not interested. Already invested in Sonos throughout home.

HomePod sound quality isn’t very good to begin with, so no.
