Are you buying Apple’s new 16-inch MacBook Pro?

16" is really too big for me to carry around. I need a new laptop for my uni course and if Apple releases updated 13/14" version Pro (or even Air) by Dec 2019 then I will immediately preorder. Guess they won't release it any time soon, and in this case, I will just settle with a Windows laptop. Bye MacOS :(

    14inch plz

Anyone ordering this laptop right now is a potential sucker. Wouldn't it be smart to let the many reviewers test this new laptop for a few months to be sure it's reliable without glaring faults before you hand Apple your thousands of $. Rule #1: DON'T TRUST APPLE'S PR HYPE. If this laptop proves reliable then fine, go out and buy one. But why not wait, and if it's proven that Apple again cut corners on some other vital component, you've spared yourself unnecessary grief.

I'd wait for a 13" non touchbar version, then wait some more and buy it refurbished from Apple. I've got the 2016 13" without the touchbar and it's been reliable other than the battery replacement program. Keyboard has been a non issue for me.

I'll buy one when it offers wifi 6 accessibility. I tend to keep my Macs longer than a year or two. Wifi 6 may not be readily available now but it will be in the next few years.

They first sell a product which is 'revolutionary' , Months after its launch they launch something new which is best ever made and 1000% faster than its older version (Only in specs) and made consumer feel that they are missing out something.
This has become a habit of this company where they are manipulating customer's physological buying behaviour where there is a fear or being left out and they spend unconsciously and repeatedly on the same thing. This is evident from all Apple's keynotes recently wherr they compare their products only to older versions and not to the competitors' products because there they will fail badly.
So what is happening we are getting same things with minute alterations and spending big amounts on same things again and again. And what happens to out old products?, they become junk very soon and no matter if it is 10 days old, Apple depreciate it very badly. On the other hand if we check prices of refurbished Apple products, that is 95% of the new ones.

They have caught a right cord of human psychology to mint out more money again and again, and we are happily paying.

Waiting for a 12 inch, 13 inch, or maybe 14 inch version with the new keyboard before I buy. That’s what I’ve been waiting for for years.

  • Lou - 4 years ago

    I’m not buying a 3k machine with a 14nm Intel CPU.

  • Bagel McJenson-Moroney - 4 years ago

    No.
And not because I'm a Windows user. I own a MacBook, mostly because I believe macOS is pretty darn good.
    Three reasons:
First, I think 16in is too large for me
Second, I'm not paying 2k plus dollars for a machine I could get for 2x less
Third, servicing bills are gonna be massive

No. The touch bar is almost useless, the keyboard will still suck and getting rid of the magsafe power connector is still one of the dumbest ideas Apple has had in recent memory. Apple's Man design philosophy is set around them being disposable, needing to be replaced once your Applecare warranty has expired. If the batteries are still glued in, and the ram and ssd soldered into place, this is just another disposable modern art piece pretending to be a high end laptop.

Had they officially announced it two weeks before, yes. Now I bought an i7 Mac Mini instead, which is basically the same, but not portable and cheaper.

  • Brad - 4 years ago

I'm waiting for an updated 13" model with the new keyboard - either the Air or the Pro.

  • Jawad - 4 years ago

I just ordered mine, it would reach on 26th Nov (meh). I bought a 15" MBP last week so it's a no-brainer to swap for a far better keyboard/display/thermals (fingers crossed) and battery in almost exactly same price point.

  • Chris - 4 years ago

Currently my 2016 is having keyboard and screen delamination issues, depending on how my repairs or replacement goes, if I get a new replacement, no I will not be buying a new 16, but if it's just repaired, I'll be fixing and selling for a new one

  • Steve - 4 years ago

For the price it may be the replacement for my Mac Mini. My problem is I just retired and have a hard time justifying the price. "End of Life" machine? Doubt it.

  • Xavier - 4 years ago

    No.
It will be discontinued with a few years (just like the 17” before it ) with the excuse that is too big, or not in demand enough or some other lame excuse so what’s the point?

  • Phillip - 4 years ago

I will wait till version 2 or 3 like, Like I do with all my apple hardware. but ultimately yes.

Apple is a corporation that has not only moved its manufacturing facilities to China, it relies heavily on the multi-billion dollar profits the Chinese consumer market provides. Due to this influence, Apple has acted in complicity with the Chinese government and is responsible for the release of private data of millions of users to the Chinese (and other?) governments. It has blocked apps which are used used to promote democracy and freedom. Motivated by profit, Apple works with the Chinese authorities to maintain the "great firewall", preventing the flow of information and free speech throughout the Chinese empire for the purpose of social engineering and population control-- effectively suppressing the basic human rights of the Chinese people. Apple imposes a form of slavery upon its users, regardless of nationality, through mechanisms of planned obsolescence and proprietary hardware and software systems. It is a purely selfish act to buy and endorse Apple products. The cost of purchasing Apple products is much higher than its price tag. Please reconsider your decision to blindly endorse this corporation and others like it, do your research, and Free Hong Kong!

AMD, Intel are out for me... waiting for the ARM chips. The efficiency the power there ARM chips as proven in the ipad pros is worth waiting for. Intel and AMD are beating around the bushes with the CISC x86... they need to adopt to the far more powerful, effective and efficient RISC chips ARM uses or jump on the RISC-V band wagon or get left in the dust.
Nope! Will wait for ARM to be installed into the new Macs then I’ll have a laptop with a 20 hour battery ;) ... 2020 latest by 2021 I hear?

  • John S - 4 years ago

Too much notebook for what I do, but I am hoping the new keyboard works down to other Macbook's.

  • Ard - 4 years ago

No. I will wait for Wifi 6

  • rc - 4 years ago

When they bring out a 17 inch with touch screen then I will buy one ! My 15 inch Mac laptop screen is way too small !!!!!!

  • Obby - 4 years ago

I just bought the Mac book pro 15" last week and I am returning it tomorrow. I use computers mostly for work with pro tools and Adobe premiere for film and video. The 16" I will order with 64 gigs of ram and a better processor and hopefully it will work well. When I received the Mac book pro 15" I was utterly disappointed. The keyboard felt like it was going to break at any moment. And as well I am going to be comparing the new 16" macbook pro against a new lenovo P53 with higher specs for use with pro tools and Adobe. Time will tell

  • Mike - 4 years ago

No upgradability = no deal. Horrible to be forced to spend that kind of money up front in a desperate attempt to future proof it for a few extra years.

  • Sid - 4 years ago

F no. I need a 16' full HD MacBook air.

  • Gene - 4 years ago

    Ordered today.

  • Robert - 4 years ago

Not interested in the Touch Bar or any of the underlying technology. I've had a current or near-current Apple laptop since the TiBook. No more. I sold my pre-Touch Bar laptop to a friend and bought one of the abominations (I had concerns, but the sales pitch was *very* convincing). It worked so poorly for my purposes that I had to replace it, and my friend was far too happy with his 'new' MBP to be willing to give it back...

So, now I'm Apple-free. I'm really not happy about that, but I was even less happy owning the hardware Apple wants to sell these days.

I don't want Apple's New Thing. I just want an incrementally improved Old Thing, but apparently even asking politely for pre-touch-bar old stock is enough to cause hard feelings at today's Apple Stores...

  • Ben - 4 years ago

    As i feared.

Again, no non-touch bar option. Are you f-ing serious?

Again, that ugly lower screen bezel advertising the Macbook Pro text instead of the beautiful minimalism of past models.

When something works brilliantly, why change it?

Nevermind the hardware. I'm sticking with my 2015 model until the next-gen perfect laptop comes out.

  • Andrew - 4 years ago

I'll get one as soon as they come out with AMD Ryzen chips!

  • pdcla - 4 years ago

I'll be placing my order the moment they announce the 14" version...

  • Mesmeriser - 4 years ago

I want one, but unfortunately my wallet doesn’t agree with me about the cost.

  • Jay - 4 years ago

Apple will get my money when they bring out a 14" MacBook Pro with Face ID, Magic Keyboard and Liquid Retina with rounded edges like the iPad Pro

  • Kurosh - 4 years ago

I think the new MacBook pro is definitely better but i would have liked a much better display with higher dynamic range and more gpu performance. It definitely deserves its Pro name now compared to before but i do still feel they could have made better. Lets see how the cooling system holds up...

  • Ran - 4 years ago

It’s been 3 years since Face ID and they are still holding back on it’s implementation on the Mac.

Also no Liquid Retina display, i.e. rounded edges. And still have Touch Bar.

I can’t stand this planned obsolescence. They are going to drop the touch bar as soon as they ramp down production (probably have an expensive multi year contract) and inventory is depleted. It’s a failed idea just like 3D Touch on the iPhone.

So I’ll happily keep my maxed out rMBP 2015 until they decide to respect their customers who pay premium for good design/hardware choices. There is a better MBP out there, and that’ll be the next one I buy.

  • Eric - 4 years ago

Ordered it minutes after the announcement.
