I bought the model x the end of December 2019 with the aitosreer package for am extra $7000. I didn't know the streaming package was going to cost extra after dec2020. But I understand the delema so I don't mind paying the $10.00 a month soon.

I bought an S in 2018 with free premium connectivity. This was one of the many reasons that I bought another 2020 S for around $90k. And I was on the verge of buying a Y as a second car. In all cases no one said anything about paying extra per month for this option. Actually, It wasn’t an optionIt as it was assumed that it was in the high price of Tesla cars. Im really angry that Tesla would nickel and dime there dedicated customers with this $10 charge after purchase. I’m not buying the Y now and if I buy another S I will add to my contract that there will be no after purchase changes of any kind. Disappointed.

While some features like Karaoke came after I leased the car (Model S 100D) and are now gone unless I subscribe, the satellite map view was included when I leased and none of my documents, sales receipt or lease documents mentions that this was a temporary feature. I have complained to no avail and am hoping some enterprising lawyer files a class action lawsuit to restore the feature for all purchasers.

All of this was explained to me quite well at time of purchase. In fact, we have been treated to about a year of free premium data as an unexpected bonus in the time since we purchased our car. For the ability to watch movies, listen to podcasts, get music streaming, traffic visualization, and web browsing in your car, $10.00 USD/month is a great deal. (Try to get that kind of service at home for $10/month!)

By the way, I want to address Steve's concern (2 comments down). Steve, you will still get the "road" visualization in your Tesla for the standard connectivity package. That visualization is based on your car's own cameras, ultrasonics, and radar, so that's not going to change. Real-time "traffic" visualization refers to the red and orange lines that you see in your navigation system map, indicating where traffic is moving more slowly. Even without premium connectivity, your navigation system will still take real-time traffic data into account when routing your trip... you just won't see the traffic visualized on your map as red and orange lines.

Will be getting the premium package. I only use the streaming and the traffic control. The other items I don’t use. When got the car we were told that the music streaming was only good for a year and we have to pay 100.00$ a year. We only got the e-mail 5 days before it was to expire. Still glad we got the car.

I'm not seeing the correlation between "connectivity" and the Live Traffic Visualization. Isn't the visualization based on what the cameras see and software interprets in real time? What the hell does connectivity have to do with this?

By tying this major selling feature to a connectivity monthly subscription for seems to me to be a sleazy cash grab on Tesla's part. You demo a feature in a car during a test drive but don't make it clear that feature will go away if you don't pay for a data package that really has nothing to do with that (hardware/software) feature in order to **force** people into a data package monthly subscription.

I put this on the same level of sleazy cash grab as BMW charging $80/year (or $300 for 20 years) for Apple CarPlay functionality. Which by the way, they recently saw the light on and backed off of.

Didn't think Elon was this kind of sleaze.

    Disappointed... Very disappointed.

I was surprised when I found out that I now must pay to have a radio in my car. The tesla radio stinks and now they want me to pay for it when it is spotty at best.

I purchased my Model 3 Plus in March 2019 and was satisfied with regular and hd radio and basic maps. I have played with some of the added features of the premium package. It is more convenient to listen to Stephanie Miller and Rachel Madow through the premium package but very doable via my iPhone. It seems like I would be paying twice for something my iPhone already provides. My son-in-law works as a mechanic for Tesla and I will get his take on this.

I have been pushing Tesla as the most delightful car since purchasing in Dec 2018- updates are so amazing and the car is as well. The email took me by surprise as I was never told that there was a limited subscription- so I am backing off from being the biggest ambassador for Tesla for now while I contemplate this added but mostly unexpected expense

It was never communicated to us when we paid over 90K for our Tesla that we will have to pay for these features after one year! we paid extra $$ to get FSD for features that are not even available yet! but existing features that we paid for will now be taken away? I'm so upset because I feel i like was cheated. No, i will not pay $10 and i will not buy another Tesla for fear of paid features that will be taken away from me!

I purchased my M3 performance, fully loaded, on July 4. Missed the cut-off by 4 days. Since purchasing the car new, it has been revalued at approximately 20K less than what I purchased it for. I have purchased plenty of new cars in my life but have never experienced this before. Even some of the extra options I paid for in order to be unique, like white paint, now come standard. While I understand that prices can always change, and everything is unpredictable, somehow I feel I got burned. Considering what I overpaid, it really adds insult that I now have to pay for connectivity that I assumed would remain with the car.

I paid much more than $10/month for my 2017 Audi to have satellite view maps on its navigation system (subscription was with AT&T and it was a ripoff). I don't think it's unreasonable for Tesla to expect $10/month. It's definitely worth it for me to have the satellite maps and music streaming while on the road.

I would like to see a tiered option for $4.99 that would include just the traffic and satellite visualization features. Everything else I could hotspot my phone - music & video streaming, browser etc.

    Tesla please offer multiple tiers!

  • Moke - 4 years ago

    Not worth it.

I only use the streaming music feature. Live Traffic is nice but can live without. All the other apps like Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and basic internet browsing, don't need or use any of that. I can do that on my smartphone if it's really needed.

I charge at home and SuperCharging stations don't take that long so don't need entertainment.

Poll lacking option for people grandfathered in.

Bad business decision. Tesla customers were once well-treated, well taken care of. Nowadays not so much. Lousy pick-up experiences were the first tip-off that the climate had changed. They need to learn that if you sell a car with whatever features, you can't take those features away later. Buyers should have been clearly informed of this, including putting it right on the configuration page, otherwise dont offer " premium interior package" to begin with. If they insist on doing this, we won't be buying another tesla in the future despite wanting either a cybertruck or a Y.

I would love to pay yearly $100 subscription or 3 years sub for $250 but not willing to pay monthly.

  • S - 4 years ago

Would be nice if they grandfathered those that paid a premium around the cutoff (fall 2018); there are some P3D buyers out there that saw their car’s value drop 10k within the first month or two and close to 20k by now (that’s new mind you, not depreciation) and they’re now being left behind with hardware 3 diverging feature-wise from hw 2.5. At least not getting juiced for another subscription (maybe under a certain threshold of usage per month) would make for better customer relationships.

I really hope it brings up real live traffic info to my SR+.

  • Danny - 4 years ago

I think it’s great that they are finally offering a subscription model for something. Although, I would like an option to pay $100/year or $250 for 3 years up front.

This subscription model is something I have tweeted @elonmusk and @tesla since taking delivery of my 2018 M3P 13 months ago. However, I was advocating for a subscription option for FSD. Imagine the new and profitable revenue Tesla could pick up by charging $150-$200/month for FSD in perpetuity. This would be MUCH easier to digest for 10s of thousands (and soon hundreds of thousands) of Tesla owners rather than $7,000 at once.

The subscription model would also enable future updates without only digging into the unrecognized revenue pool.

It’s a win win for Tesla and Consumer.

Love the car, and love being a part of Elon’s mission to change the world

  • Eric - 4 years ago

I have the Model 3 SR Plus I do not have the Satellite-view maps with live traffic visualization, I hope I will get these features with the new subscription charges.

  • Andrew - 4 years ago

I have a SR+. Kids love the Caroke while we are traveling, and I love to be able to throw Netflix on while I’m waiting in a long line. Web browsing I’ve found to be helpful, but connection is slow. They may be using a provider that doesn’t have the best connection in our area. But is all of that worth it for $10 a month, I’m not sure at this point.
