Should 18-Year-Olds Be Able to Purchase Rifles?

If a person is still attending school, whether it be high school, college, grad school, nursing school… any schooling, they should not be allowed to purchase a fire arm. More over, each individual applying for a concealed carry or purchasing a fire arm MUST have a background AND character check going as far back as their grade school years. Check for bullying, were they ever expelled, suspended, or “asked not to come in”? If any of those questions give you a yes answer, that applicant, legally, should not be allowed to purchase a fire arm.
A quick search will tell you most of these school shootings, that are massacres (whether one or twenty people killed) are carried about by 14-24 year old people. And those people, nine times out of ten, are attending some type of school.
Call it stress, jealousy, anger, frustration… these are all emotions every human being goes through, that’s life. And when they go through these emotions, kids will make quick decisions. Once these kids get thoughts in their heads, and aren’t occupying their time correctly, that’s when they’re falling down these rabbit holes on the internet, and when they glue their eyes to online video games where they obtain a feeling of “control”. These kids need to be put in to sports, after school activities, and keep busy. If they keep busy, they will not have time to plan horrific events, like these school shootings.
I would go as far as saying if you are currently attending school, any school… if you are a registered student, you may not purchase a fire arm. At the same time, beef up the security at schools. We’re sending billions of dollars to other countries, why don’t we SUPPORT AMERICA, OUR COUNTRY, and use those billions of dollars to pay law enforcement agents and trained security guards to protect our public schools. I guarantee, if we have three to four law enforcement officers or trained armed guards outside or surrounding a school, a shooter wouldn’t even attempt to carry out a massacre of any kind. And if that shooter had the backbone to actually follow through, they’d be taken out right as they step on campus.
    These would be my solutions.

Yes, if they can serve in military they should be able to buy a gun….I think youth records should be viewable by agents if student not in school nor graduated. I would be okay, having an adult over 25 with them when purchasing. At least another adult is aware….but no control over illegal street buys.

The only exception would be if they're in the military at 18yo.

If they can draft you then you sb able to buy a gun. Self defense is equal. If you can defend this nation you can defend yourself. This kid in texas was a wacho .and needed help

Every man woman and child should own a gun, know how to break it down and clean it, practice once a month and shoot with adult supervision up to 18 years old then unsupervised and the personal right to bear arms… other countries give children guns… they know how to use them too… United States is too caught up in wokeness and sexgender BS that it has pussified our young men and women… if they had to look at a gun they would go hide in their safe space and cry …. You are what you create…. Don’t blame guns, they don’t shoot themselves, confused mentally I’ll people shoot people…. Good luck, raise your kids with respect… or at least be there…. Good luck….

I think most 18 year olds are more than capable of being able to handle a gun. If you are capable of being drafted into service, you should be able to purchase a weapon. The problem is mental. And that could affect any one of any age..and you just might not see it at the time the weapon is purchased. But there has got to be a better way to screen for it.

The right to keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed. You can not stop someone who is evil with evil intent from getting whatever tool to accomplish their evil end. Instead of buying it he would have stolen it or he could have used a knife, machete, a bomb or even his vehicle to do his unforgivable deeds. It's too bad that the doors were wide open and there wasn't someone there with a gun to stop the evil bastard.

If you can be drafted at 18 you can protect your 2nd amendment rights at 18.

Kids today aren’t the same as when I was 18. Most don’t want to work, they are lazy and rude. They sit around and play violent video games. My Grandson is 7. When we go to visit all him and his dad does is sit there playing video games. He doesn’t even care that we’re there. When I was a kid I loved when relatives came to visit. My grandparents on my dads side passed away when I was young so I didn’t get to know them very well. The ones on my moms side lived out of state so we only saw them once a year. I would have loved to have had grandparents to see all the time growing up. Kids don’t Appreciate what you’re missing. Back then kids were more mature and could handle owning a rifle and learning to shoot with Dad or Grandpa. Not today.

What has happened to our society is we have lost control of our people. We have lost respect for each other. We have lost for sure one generation of our youth maybe more . They don’t care about anything. They have seen burning and looting and our government does nothing. We had a President that couldn’t hardly do his job the other side didn’t respect the office and all they were doing and saying nothing but lies. Our top law officers were involved also. We have brought this on ourselves. We are going to have to put the law down across the board for everybody. We are going to have get people that want to help the people not hurt us. Our schools are out of control due to no respect for authority. It will take awhile to straighten everything out and it won’t be easy but we have to show we mean business. We need prayer in our school ,sing our National Anthem say the Pledge and love Our Country. We need to be devoted to the most beautiful and wonderful country in the world. If we don’t do this we are going to Fall.
One Prime minister of Russia said Russia does not have to destroy the United States they will destroy themselves and we are heading in that direction. We need God in Our lives.

If you can fight in a war abd drink beer at 18 you should be able to buy a gun. If you wnat the law to be 21 then chand enlistment to age21 and drinking to 21!

  • Glenda - 2 years ago

Its not the gun, it's violent games, violent movies, social media, taking prayer out of schools, no father figure, mental health.

  • Debra Smith - 2 years ago

If they can enlist in the military at 18 and go to war, they can buy a rifle here at 18. Mental health is the real crisis. Let's address that.

If you can enlist in the military, you should also be able to purchase a rifle. What we need is a better understanding of how to diagnose mental illnesses in our nation’s youth.

The last I knew a rifle required a thorough safety hunting class and a license was issued for small game ONLY! An 18 yr old should be ok with an adult who is at least 28 yr old.
But it may be a good idea to raise the rifle age to at least 21. Hunting or target practice should be fine with an ADULT (28 or older) supervision at ALL times for an 18-21 yr old.
But a hand gun or high powered rifle is a whole different category.
25 yr age and a safety class for a hand gun.
High powered rifle: again a safety class but at least 28 yr of age.

If 18 year olds can be drafted and serve in the military then they can legally buy a gun.

  • Vicki Jespersen - 2 years ago

If they are old enough to fight for our country, vote, then they should be old enough and responsible enough to own a gun! If for some ungodly reason they would vote democrat then they are absolutely not responsible enough and should not be allowed!

If we change the purchase age then military service also must change to the same age. Otherwise it stays the same and instead of trying to restrict why not educate?

  • Randy Nickolai - 2 years ago

As long as an 18 year old is forced to be able to be drafted for the military he should be allowed to buy a weapon.
