Is it stupid to trust third-party Twitter apps with your password?

We trust third party apps with our email address, server details, and password all the time, is Twitter any different? With the desktop moving into the cloud like this, issues like this are inevitable. Suffice it to say that you shouldn't post anything on Twitter that you might regret later, just like with anything else. And be under the assumption that all info is sold to marketing companies.

I enjoy testing Twitter apps, but I check them out first. How long has the app been up? Has anyone written about it yet? What do they want from me? Who are these guys, anyway? In other words, I manage my risk. Knock wood.
