More e-commerce showcases and tutorials. So many of the showcases are designers' own websites or blogs. I'd love to see some well-executed designs for sites that can't be bleeding-edge and flashy, but instead must be elegant, usable sales tools that have to deal with organizing LOTS of products.

i'd also like to read some interviews with the "big ones" of the internet design scene. Its always a great help i think.

I like the kind of post that show really cool websites and list the tools they've used to achieve the coolness, along with their tutorials.

    I love the usability articles!

Perhaps this falls under "usability," but I'd be interested in a feature on effective design for mobile devices, both web and applications. Beyond just "make it like a web page."

I agree with dylan. More interviews with designers, programmers, artists, etc. How they got started, inspiration, tools they use, helpful hints and techniques.

I come to Smashing for design coverage, and that's what I'd love to see more of. Real analysis of techniques used in design and why it works (or doesn't.) Like the article on backgrounds.
