Should remain and republican or step down he is not representing the people that voted for him , this is an example if ever there was one for term limits NO MORE than 6 or 8 years total in the house or Senate ,it will curb all this buddy, buddy click, I scratch you back if you scratch mine and no lobbing for 20 years, save money NO federal pensions or insurances but, Social Security, and medicare like the rest of us
He is taking the easy way out as he does not expect to retain his seat as a Republican. This becomes a no brainer for him as he is sure to be elected as a Democrat.
It doesn't matter much wheather he becomes a Dem or not. He mostly voted with the dems anyway
