Some of Downey's early work targeted to teens was quite good and showed the talent that lay beneath the parts being played. His supporting role in WEIRD SCIENCE as one of the bullies almost stole the show. His leading role as Alex Finch in CHANCES ARE done in 1989 gave him a chance to further show his comedic skills. More recently, his role as Paul Avery in Zodiac in 2007 provided a vehicle to demonstrate a more serious side. It is a shame that his personal life has been so turbulent since Downey is one of the better actors on the screen today and he has probably missed some prime roles because of it.
