My answer is " able" I guessed, it's a French origin language.

Most of our English words are from Latin, as are French words.
However, Dictionary.com show the origin for "able" as:
    Origin:
    1275–1325; ME

i marine is the correct answer from me. Coz it was used much on the channels, canals . But give us your answer. I was just trying to contribute .

Marine is from the Latin word "Marinus" for sea and came into English use by way of France.

I know inmate the correct word, but pliz i need the results to know which words i got write or wrong

  • gr8looksdoc - 3 years ago

It will be of great help to be given the correct answer at the end. Rarely the majority is incorrect. Knowing that 41% voted for "marine" does not confirm the correct answer.

Definitely not zeitgeiest that sounds like german

marine looks and sounds like the adj marin(e) in french (e) for the feminine . It refers to water / sea / ocean

animate is like the verb animer and the noun is animation. It means to create a nice atmosphere / to give mouvement / to conduct / to stimulate

So the same words exist in both languages. Their origin is latin

I guess the correct answer is able because it's a grammar rule verb or noun + able = adjective
    example

    English: drink/able suit /able memory / memorable
French: adorer / adorable laver / lavable aimer / aimable memoire/ memorable etc

Both marine and able come from old French, Animate comes from Latin and zeitgeist from German

I think zeitgeiest a "strange word" so I choose it . But based on poling the majority answer is marine. is it true ?

  • qudsia - 3 years ago

  • J.W. Benjamin - 3 years ago

Zeitgeiest certainly sounds German. No contention.

"Animate" and "marine" very clearly have Latin origin, while zeitgeist is clearly German. So the survey results must be wrong.
