I was a research student, then assistant at the Soviet Studies Dept 1961-3, when it was in Southpark Terrace, at the time when Jack Miller and Rudolph Schlesinger headed the dept- besides them there was --- Newth, a lecturer in stats. Rene Beerman, research associate and Jean Fyfe as secretary and editorial assistant for Soviet Studies journal, and Jean Tulloch was librarian to the superb library. I left academic work for probation work in England, and by a strange quirk of fate found Rene's daughter working in Social Services in Lichfield where I live. I was just web browsing for a talk to the local Probus on USSR in Krushchevs day when I came across your entry which stimulated much nostalgia! Best wishes Don Male
