There was only ONE bike stolen and it belonged to ONE girl therefore she owned it; ergo - it was the girl's bike! There is no other possible interpretation of the sentence.

The answer should raed one girls bicyecle was stolen becouse Girls meas something own by on girl.
In all three sentences, the word "bicycle" is singular. If the sentence had read "Two girls bicycles were stolen" you would know that two bicycles were stolen and that they were both girls bicycles. Therefore, the first sentence is correct.

"One girl's bicycle was stolen. " is the correct sentence...because "was" refers to a singular form which is the bicycle (one) described as "girl's bicycle"
Sandy - 3 years ago
I interpreted the sentence as identifying the type of bicycle that was stolen. I didn't imply that it belonged to a girl or a boy but it was the style of the bike so my answer was, One girls bicycle was stolen. I imagine that there is no correct answer to this but the intrepretation you put into the sentence decides what word you should use.
glynda - 3 years ago
The sentence is a bit confusing. however, i go with ans.#2. One girl's bicycle was stolen. Because " one " refers to singular. meaning one of the girl's bicycle was stolen. however, if the sentence goes " one of those girls bicycle was stolen, then I go for ans#3.

One girl's biclycle was stolen is correct.
Because, the singular subject always agrees with singular verb and the plural subject agrees with plural verb. in this case; one girl means singular and an apostraphy plus letter (s) shows the ownership of the bicycle and fact about the bicyle.
Bel.B - 3 years ago
These sentences seems easy but can be very complex. One thing I know is; the 's indicates ownership for words that do not end with s while words that end with s follow the sign ' as for that words with just s for me are pural. so, whats the right answer?

I do hope that daddybrock32 intended a deliberate mistake.
Not sure if ZincOrange has given the correct intended message but it is much clearer than the two alternatives.
I would choose the second option in a multiple choice question but as pointed out, option 3 could also be correct.
Iraj Mozaffary - 3 years ago
If the word "one" is reffered to girl- who is the owner of the stolen bicycle, then the 2th answer is correct. But if the word "one" reffers to bicycle which it,s used by girls, then the 3th answer is correct
