    John R,

You actually believe the fantasy of Rush?

To Mr. Retired Educator......I am sorry but you chose your profession. Just because that person makes $100,000 does not mean they should have to pay more for healthcare just because he earns more. Maybe that person has 3 kids. Also, if you make more money that is better for the govt. because most likely they would not need to go to public schools and need public assistance. So you should be thanking them.....for taking care of themselves. Trust me the more money people make the more taxes they pay be it in purchases, property taxes and income tax.

Thank you John R. for being the voice of reason. I own my own business and have worked sometimes twelve hours a day to get the the successful point that I am at now. My business has grown thru blood, sweat and tears. I pay a ridiculous amt of taxes already, in addition to payroll, rent, office expenses etc. However, I am not complaining. I also try to do my part for the economy. Who else is really buying things these days? I would like to hire some people that are in need of work on a commission basis only. This would not really put much more $ in my pocket, however would be more like a mitzvah. But do I want to do that now? Increase my gross pay and be taxed even more? It would probably wind up costing me money! Something is really wrong with this whole system, and unfortunately I don't have the answers. All I know is that it is totally unfair to rob from the rich to give to the poor.

Everyone should pay 15% tax of their income and we should be cool.
Goverment has become way too big and we cannot afford it, and as far as communism is concerned we have two of them here. GOP and DEMORATS.
Also get rid of this stupid war machine and put the money to national heath plan. And first of all start taxing CHURCHES they are the biggest leeches of our country.

Dan L., you are a moron and what is wrong with this country. "soak them to the bone" huh?? It is a fact that the top 10% of wage earners in this country pay 64% of the nations income tax!!!!! I think that that they pay way more than their fair share already. Make the wealthy pay more and watch unenployment SOAR even more than it has. Those wealthy are the ones creating jobs and hiring employees for their businesses.

Yes the wealthy should be taxed appropriately to carry the burden of improved naqtional health care because, it is a fallacy that the very wealthy contribute most of the nation's tax revenue, or even their fair share. Most individuals with annual incomes over $250,000 employ law firms to take advantage of the many loopholes in our voluminous and confusing tax laws, and the IRS does not have enough manpower to fight them all, so they pay less than their fair share of the cost of running America.

Why is socialism seen as "the boogie man in the closet"? Get real. We have successful socialist programs like minimum wage, social security, medicare, and medicaid. Yes, they are paid for through taxation, but higher incomes are earned through the labor and purchasing power of the society at large. No man is an island. Until the government protects the average citizen, profit alone will guide the policies of those able to take advantage of the lack of regulation. Has anyone been paying attention to the banking , pharmaceutical,
& petroleum industries? Of course the rich should pay a higher percentage in tax. Just take a drive down the intracoastal to view the result of the growing disparity between the rich and the rest of society, & take notice of how many of the homes are shuttered because they are part-time residences. Do you think the wealthy will ever worry about not being able to afford an illness, or have to chose between paying for their medications or buying groceries? If judging a society by the way they treat their animals is a fair evaluation, then what about judging a society by the way it dispenses its medical treatment?

Citizens of all other developed nations enjoy universal health care - simple human dignity - as a right. Germany has had it since the 19th century. The rich in Amereica have made out like bandits for far too long. Should we raise their taxes to pay for health care for the poor and working classes? You bet. Soak them to the bone!

Really I think that we should have free health care for all. Let me find out that are country is the best place live everyone thinks, and the richest before Bush put us in the broke house. And so what if the rich pay higher taxes if you really look at it you cannot take it with you. We need to take care of our people has a whole that is the only way we will defeat and stay strong and on top of our game stick together we are the only pepole that do not and that is why shit slip in and rock our boat. AMERICA MAN UP!!!!!

This is America! We aren't a socialist or communist country.

Why should the poor and middle class pay a greater portion of their income for health care? I am a retired Florida public school teacher living on Social Security and retirement benefit and pay 29% of my income for health insurance. 29% of $1600 month leaves me far less to live on than someone paying even 35% of $100,000 month.

As far as choice, when I was working I had a choice of health plans, but I could only afford the HMO. There was NO choice!

Get real, go get a job and support yourself... Being "Rich" is an option that we all can have... Your President did, so follow his lead...

  • smikey - 15 years ago

Wealthy people seemed to do all right when Clinton was President. Why not roll back the tax rate on the rich to what it was before Bush gave them their tax breaks.
