Yes, all those issues are fair enough, but what we really need to be all working towards is universal peace, a world without any killing of persons for any reason whatsoever.
Punishment yes.
A world of respect for each other.
A world of caring for the environment in all fields.
A world of sharing, country to country, and within the countries.
A world in which we all realize, regardless of our sex or skin color, we all come from the same beginning, that we have a stream of light and love coming into each and every one of us, constantly, from the universe itself, sustaining us and every living thing.
We are one in an amazing universe, which commands a lot of respect, if our beautiful blue planet earth is to survive.

The solution to the five suggestions above with intelligence and intuitive balance of perspective would have to start with the source. Repairing the effect over and over again dilutes the cause an effect of the source problem.
Should Capitalism have free reign?
Making money in an economic system is imperative to growth and sustainability of culture and beliefs.
However, the objective has little recourse to consideration of anything but the bottom line. That of which does not include you and I the Citizen. Capitalism. If I the Company can dominate the market by limiting the choices available to the Citizen. How could I the Company do this?
By limiting restraints on Business through the downsizing of Government? Government overview and control as representative to its Citizens?
Less overview by the Citizen, you and I; does this allow for better choice in the free market place?
Big Business, Small Government?
Am I wrong to think that this Nation should be in the Control of the Citizen and not the Capitalist? I would much rather have an educated debate over the long term cause and effect vs. the well we've been doing it wrong for so long we can't change it now, it would be the total down fall of the economy.

While all of your choices for Obama to focus on at the UN are important, you left out one subject crucial to world survival--nuclear disarmamanet. While climate change might endanger the world's population in the next 10,20 or 50 years, today the huge presence of nuclear weapons could threaten us in the next 10,20 or 50 minutes.

Global Warming, Pollution, dumping of toxic waste in clean waters are sure signs of looming doom - sure and absolutely certain. Reversing the climate is not easy. It can not be changed in a decade or so. It requires total co-operation from all the member states of the United Nations. If we do not wake up now -then - our dear Earth will start its journey towards the end -end of life. President Obama should and must deliver a strong message and show the world that the U.S., is really concerned. More neglect can deprive the earth of food -both on land and in sea, and lead to the destruction of flora and fauna that can damage our delicate and fragile eco -system. The climatic change needs more attention than the development in the industry. Lets hope that reason will dawn and narrow boundries of politics will be demolished. We have only one Earth and ONE HOME. SAVE IT NOW.
I think that Obama will and should mention the climate change goals--the U.S. legislation, weak as it may be, and leadership at the Copenhagen conference in developing new worldwide objectives and policies. More important, though, and more likely to be underplayed in his speech is that he feature the Millennium Development objectives, so that's what I voted for.
I'd like to suggest something else of enduring importance, one that specifically concerns the U.N. as an organization and does not get much attention here in the U.S.: the need for general reform of the U.N. Charter, and specifically to expand the Security Council. The U.S. should go on record as favoring the expansion of the Security Council by four seats: permanent ones for Brazil, India, and Japan, as well as one to be shared in alternate years by Germany and Turkey. Most ambitiously, he should suggest the notion that the Security Council move to Jerusalem (!) and pledge a battalion of U.S. Marines to defend its security. That would be a Wow! moment the world would never forget.
Finally, if he believes in it, Obama should declare his personal support for a new, democratically-elected assembly to replace the UNESCO organization. Constituencies for this new body should be set up to cross national boundaries, consider ethnic group representation, and the quality of electoral participation should be monitored by a new Electoral Supervision Agency: the U.N. should, for the first time, assist the world in moving toward participatory democracy.

I think you might get a more accurate picture of voters' views if you asked us to rank the five. I saw another comment that could have been mine. In effect: if global warming is not addressed at all levels, from individual actions, county, state, national, and international, then I believe the consequences will be overwhelming. I think all five are important, some perhaps more than others.

Climate change and Multiunilateral goals are important issues that need our complete attention. However, if people are starving, not being treated with respect and dignity, or are enveloped in the darkness of ignorance because they are uneducated then we have little hope in solving any problems in this world. I would only be concerned with finding food if I were starving or safety & vindication if being persecuted or discriminated against. We need to address the real needs of human beings first- if we are ever to solve the larger problems affecting us all.

Screw this "passing a bill" and "supporting an agenda" crap. What we need to be doing RIGHT THIS EXACT SECOND is taking the trillions in subsidies AWAY from the oil companies, and using that money to put windmills and passive solar roofs and high-efficiency appliances and insulation and upgrades EVERYWHERE.
Screw the "new housing starts." Put construction workers into replacing and repairing and fixing what's already there, and in desperate need of maintenance.
Screw the seventeen-lane highways. Hand out a bag of asphalt-crete to everyone with a car, and let them choose which pothole on their own street to fill in.
Screw the seventy-story bank buildings. There's an abandoned warehouse right there. Go fix it up with your own stolen money, you billioniare jerks.
The point is, WE CAN DO ALL THIS RIGHT THIS MINUTE. Despite obstructionists repukelicans, we can spend less money than Chicken George diverted to his war profiteering buddies in ONE DAY, and fix 75% of the problems before the end of the month.
You don't believe me? Hah. Ask anyone you know who was around during WW2. They did TEN TIMES as much as we're doing now, with less than a FIFTH of the resources. Because they HAD to.
The wimps and weenies of this remote-control generation need to get off their fat rear ends and learn that no, you are NOT two years old any more, and no, your candy is NOT going to be handed to you every time you whine.
You pretend to have the rights of an adult. Let's see you act like one.
HAHAHAHA! I actually bothered to scan the "comments" from the handful of trolls (all employed by insurance companies) and their idiotic lies and attacks.
PLEASE. Does anyone SANE really believe there are "almost two thousand recommendations" of a few lying puppet toady dimwits, with the most ridiculous anonymizers since the IRS scam?
Let's have the computer records of, for example, CIGNA, checked for the past week. Uh-huh. Wow, didn't realize they had so many dedicated agents working all night. What's that? There was nobody in the building when their banks of computers and two million twitters were spewing out mindless boilerplate hate speech against health care reform?
The unbelievable lies these finger-puppets of the insurance company fat cats spray like a cheap leaky hose would be a dead giveaway as to their whoredom, if Americans weren't deliberately being kept not just uninformed, but stupid.
In fact, Pelosi (wimp that she is) and Hoyer (coward that he is) stated only the mildest of "inconvenient" truths. The bald and painful fact is that America is a fourth-world country in terms of health care for the general population. The single and only field in which America leads is penis enhancers.
Fact. 90% of American citizens wants what the insurance companies are trying to denigrate as "socialized" medicine. (Insurance-company-troll lie: "Popular sentiment is on our -- and by "our," I mean the insurance company that is paying me to spew this idiotic lie -- side!")
Fact. 90% of American citizens want the insurance fat cats OUT of the hospital rooms. Broken bones and heart attacks do not need some green-eye-shade paper-pusher deciding who you can go to, and when, and how much it will cost to save your life.
Fact. The "protests" are NOT coming from "grassroots" who "make their own signs" (well, they do make their own signs, as you can tell from the fact that they can't spell, but they're still being paid to go wave their mis-spellings), but from "astroturf" lobbyists and their, face it, idiot dupes.
Fact. Inconvenient truth. All rightwingnuts are idiot dupes. The billionaires pay them five bucks an hour to be an idiot dupe.
The billionaires get their trillions in tax handouts. The idiot dupes get fed lines like "American!" and "Freedom of speech!" for the price of the cardboard and paint they make their self-embarrassing idiot signs with.
All sane people really just want to go sla

Global warming is the most important problem we face right now. If we don't get a handle on it, it won't matter what else we do, because we won't be here to work on any of the other problems we face. I agree that all of the 5 choices are important, and all of them need to be addressed, but once we reach the tipping point of global warming there is no turning back until the human race is reduced to the point that we can no longer influence the climate. That doesn't mean that we wait to address the other problems we face, but we MUST become proactive about climate change Now!!!

It is time for the United Nations to stop demonizing the state Of Israel. Israel is not the cause of the dire humanitarian crisis among the Palestinian people.Instead of constructing a viable economy and government for their people, they are focused on terroristic attacks and the destruction of Israel. This has been their constant stated pupose and mantra. Fatah is Hamas and Hamas is Fatah. Their fundamental common position is to kill Israelis and destroy a nation. Can someone explain to me why the praise of suicide bombers is worlwide and Israel, Jews continue to be scapegoated and despised? Why is vile antisemitism still an accepted norm, after Hitler's master plan was so well executed?

Recognize the real fact: that 1/3 of the money spent on weapons in the world today will be enough to solve the climate crisis, give everyone access to clean water, safe food, education, clean energy and so on! Imagine what the rest of the money could be used to! For example free travelling with trains/busses all over the world, free access to a variety of culture events for everyone, global base income, free health care and so on....! What would we then fight about?!
It would be enough to fight on the sport arenas instead of war killing innocent.

The humanitarian issue in Gaza needs to be addressed... Israel has closed its borders to needed supplies to rebuild the country. The people are still living in tents and the situation is dire... malnutrition amongst children is as high as Somalia. In East Jerusalem, Palestinians are being driven out of their homes that they have lived in for decades and left with nowhere to go. And the world is doing nothing while Israel is free to do as it wishes. The UN and the US must stand up to Israel and not allow this to happen... basic human rights are being deprived of the people of Palestine and Gaza. There will be no peace in the Middle East if these basic needs are not addressed.

What I find quite strange is that President Obama has enough on his plate with the United States. We are hammering away at him as though he's the only person who made policy. I certainly didn't see any of this throughout the George Bush error. He kept his presidency under cloak and dagger, and we the people had no idea what the heck was going on most of the time. Now that we can once again air our views and opinions as American's should be allowed too...why are we cutting off our own noses to spite our faces with this president. I just don't get it. President Bush was a lousy speaker as well as a lousy politician. We have a man who is a scholar and we're still pushing the envelope with him. We need to give President Obama the chance that we've given any other president. I always stand on the verge of fear with him as I'm just waiting for something ugly to happen. Today on CNN they stated that more militant groups are appearing with racial undertones....so I'm telling the Secrect Service right now to please guard and protect our president and his family...as there will be problems if this turns into a JFK scenario.
Thank you.

Hold on a minute - I'm all for controlling global warming but in terms of priorities I argue that meeting the perviously defined Millenium goals to bring about social justice and relief from present suffering should be paramount. Eventually gloabal warming will likely bring about the demise of humans if it isn't controlled, but living in a world that presently tolerates injustice and suffering is worse. If we solve global warming but fail to meet current social and moral committments we don't deserve to inhabit this otherwise miraculous planet!

While all of the 5 choices are worthy of support, if global warming is not conquered (or at the very least, substantially reduced), there is not a lot of use in doing any of the others.

Mandatory birth control is the only choice we have that isn't just a band aid. You know very well that we will not govern ourselves The only way to save ourselves is mandatory birth control.
to fight climate change only one solution is to implement- MAGNEGAS in all areas of electricity, car fuel, kitchen gas, etc.
it releases oxygen as exhaust.cheap and renewable.someone tell to him, he doesnt seem to acknwoledge these hybrid and these renewable energy.
It is not as if the whole U.N. can handle only one problem at a time. I say he should cover all five questions and more, and then push for them.
Yes, cut "defense" spending, not Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid.
Chill out Die Hard, or you'll croak yourself and deprive us of your wonderfully articulated and gently phrased opinions.
All sane people really just want to go sla
obama needs to say he is sorry for what he has caused in america and obama needs to stop lying to the other countries and stop borrowing money from them.if he can't do any of those he needs to send hillary clinton
If you don't do something now to control our climate it won't matter what we do on the other issues.
I believe that climate change should be the top priority because if we fail to clean up the environment soon the other issues will not matter.
No other issues threaten our nation and our world community as much as dangers from nuclear weapons and other fissionable materials, and the ramifications resulting from global climate change.

WE ONLY HAVE ONE WORLD SO CLIMATE CHANGE CONTROL IS IMPERATIVE FOR SURVIVAL, ALL THE OTHER ISSUES DEPEND ON A LIVABLE PLANET!
We need your help to get out of the Middle East peacfully.
Our economy is killing us as we spend too much time on producing and shipping our money in general. The dollar is about .38 cents.
Dollars should become Euros.
Stop stupid people like the Bushes, Regan, Nixon, Carter, Ford, Clinton from being elected.
Oil, Uranium, and Opium were not reasons to kill Middle Eastern children and women, Native Americans and China.
Mother Earth must be honored, or we as a species will be eradicated as a matter of survival for the planet. Untill we live in respect of Earth, fellow humans, and ourselves, we are doomed the repeat the mistakes of history, or even worse, have no history or future. Knowing that we are all one, with no beginning and no end, will make humankind strong, vibrant, and loving, as we should be. For all our sakes, we must live with open loving hearts. Thank You
I concur with what Enid Brosky said. If we could get all nations and countries of the world to come together to make "Real Peace in the World a Priority", we could see peace without "Nuclear Weapons", Peace in the Middle East, a first priority which I feel President Obama will unvail in his plan on September 2009.
With these priorities a must for the World, wouldn't would have a much more pleasant place to live with all peoples working together for Peace, Lasting Peace. Thank you, Drs. Delmas J. and Sarah Bahous Allen
The USA should ratify the extradition treaty with the UK. It is in operation in a one sided way and that is wrong.
I picked multilateralism because Pres. Obama can touch each of the other topics issued. It is a matter of multilateral cooperation on all the issues. If we can only cooperate better as nations, as people, we are more likely to solve many world problems.
Rex Roberts took the words right out of my mouth. This has got to be a priority. If we don't get Global worming under control nothing else will matter.
Climate change affects all people on this planet. All the other issues follow and there must be education on how to live on this earth without destroying it.
While all of the 5 choices are worthy of support, if global warming is not conquered (or at the very least, substantially reduced), there is not a lot of use in doing any of the others. For example, there is not much chance to promote multilateralism if everyone in the world is treading water after the polar ice has melted.
