Do you think Ellen DeGeneres will make a good fourth judge on 'American Idol'?

I've often watched Ellen's show when she had musical guests...in my opinion she has terrible taste in music...I've heard her rave about singers who couldn't carry a tune in a bucket...singers who have no legitimate talent...she has no credibility and to have her as a judge tells me that they're not interested in finding true talent...they care about ratings...she's funny and means well but can't be considered a serious judge of music on any level.

I love Ellen, but as you pointed out, she was a terrible judge on "So You Think You Can Dance". I'm not sure I can take a whole season of that kind of inane crap. The producers of American Idol think they can appease the viewing public for screwing over Paula, by putting cheery Ellen in her seat.

I saw her on "So you think you can dance" and I had to fast forward her feed back on the contestants. She was not good at all.I will not be watching AI as long as she is a judge.

She has no music background. I will not watch American Idol this season because of her selection as a judge. Her selection indicates the contest is not a selection of talent but otherwise. This will cost the show a viewing audience.

please do not make a mistake of replacing Paula with Ellen.

Kanya would make a great judge for American Idol

I do not think that Ellen fits in as a judge. Her personality is not the type for a judge. She is more a monologue type person and a comedian. She likes to dance, so why not have her be on "So you think you can dance" instead. I say do with just 3 judges if we cannot have Paula back.

Ouch. What's with all the Ellen hating? She's a hilarious comedian, and if all she does is make corny jokes on Idol, I am still going to tune in. I don't really care if she judges or not - we have the other three for that. But I will be fascinated with how a personality like her fits into the Idol machine. If it's going to be a little awkward or what not, all the more entertaining.

What the heck are they thinking, with all the musical talent out there, surely SOMEONE would have stepped up to the plate to replace Paula. I like Kara, I think she proved herself on the show as far as being knowledgeable. Adding EG may be the demise of the show for me. DVR can be fast forwarded through her or there is always the mute button. Go back to your daytime show Ellen, Idol will be just fine without you.......

Ellen will definitely be the death of American Idol. We have watched for about 7 years now and we will not be watching this year. What's wrong with giving Paula the money she deserves in order to keep Idol alive.

I've never missed an Idol show. With the brain dead decision to add a self centered comedian of questionable talent as a judge means I'll skip Idol. The show is about the kids. ED will make it all about herself, her agenda, and more about her. Sad to say, this is the end of a great show.

I'm sick at the thought and the reality that Ellen D. will be a judge on American Idle. I doubt I will ever watch the program again and I was a very, very faithful watcher of the program

I don't know what to think about this...I like Ellen, but if she does what she did on So You Think You Can Dance, then it will be tiring to watch. What I hope she does is just say what's on her mind being serious and not funny, but everyone is so sused to her cracking jokes that I don't know if I'll be able to take it seriously

I'll have to wait and see what she does to be sure, but I still would have preferred to have 3 judges. In Season 7, the Top 5 contestants were able to 2 songs. In season 8, they did one. In S7, top 4 did 2 songs, s8, one song and a duet. The contestants got to go more songs with 3 judges, which is what I love because I always download/buy the songs after wards. I want more songs, not more advice!

I like Ellen just fine but do not want to see her as a judge on American Idol. I saw her guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance and it was painful to watch and she ruined that night's show for me. I do not want to hear her trying to be funny on Idol. Plus she has no music/vocal training/experience- how is she even remotely qualified to be a judge? Let's go back to 3 judges- they always are short on time as it was.

I Love Ellen! She is awsome! She will be a good judge because she is just like all of us watching at home! Good Luck Ellen!

  • Shinydeoxys - 15 years ago

Wow. That's all I can say. This is pathetic. (I mean Ellen becoming a judge)

I think Ellen would be a great judge ,It would have been nice her working
with Paula they may have been a great team.

  • Tiggercat - 15 years ago

Idol should have tried a lot harder to keep Paula. Three judges was great. I can't even remember or pronounce the newer judge that joined Paula, Randy and Simons name. She does not have a distintive enough personality to warrent the effort to. Ellen will be the kiss of death to American Idol. This show does not need a forth judge, does not need comic relief, and dumb critiques. Ellen does not represent me in any way shape or form. I can't imagine why she thinks she speaks for the masses. Poor contestants. Sad day for Idol fans.

I also avoid Ellen routinely. Although I was a latecomer to American Idol, I had grown to enjoy it. I doubt if I will ever watch it again.

I'm with you Michael, I'm very disappointed Ellen will be the 4th judge on American Idol. I don't think it's going to work. They should have had guest judges every week and kept it fresh. I'm sure they would have had no problems filling that seat.

I have never thought Ellen Degeneres entertaining or amusing. If I see her on my TV, whether in a commercial or on a show, I immediately use the clicker. I would rather watch paint dry than her. I have been a huge Idol fan, but I will watch ANYthing where she isn't. I'm going to miss Idol -- at first.

I say NO. EG has an agenda and it doesn't include judging outside her expertise. The contestants deserve a Pro as theit careers may depend on any professiona; commentary. I also saw her on SYTYCDance and the other judges seemed uncomfortable with her comments. I couldn't tell if she was serious or just trying to get a laugh. The contestants deserve better. I say go with 3 judges and keep it professional as it should be. Invite her as a guest judge and use it as a trial baloon. Good luck!

I do not like Ellen DeGeneres and I am very disappointed that she will be the fourth judge. I am not happy that a lesbian will be on the panel. I am not comfortable with this and I am not looking forward to the show as I usually do. I enjoyed the sparring between Paula and Simon and we certainly won't see that with Ellen and Simon. Paula added a "quirky" little twist to the show that was very amusing for us.

  • cridge - 15 years ago

While I also love Ellen, I can't take her seriously as a judge. She never claimed to have any music experience, she is coming from the view point of a music purchaser. These contestants need someone to give them constructive criticism that will help them polish their craft, and I don't think she can provide the help they need.

I think 3 judges with a different guest judge each week would keep it different and interesting.

  • TVFan - 15 years ago

Bottom line is that Ellen is an American Idol in her own right, and the show needs someone on that level judging, whether it's in the same field or not. Randy, Kara and Simon have enough of the critical expertise needed and courage to voice their critiques; I think it's good that someone as fun and positive as Ellen will be taking Paula's place.

  • Jim - 15 years ago

She has no background in music to qualify her as a judge of singing talent.

  • Em - 15 years ago

She has as much right as the rest of us to voice our opinion. All of us - singing background or not - choose the winner. Chill!

  • debbie b - 15 years ago

while i love ellen as a comedian, as far as i know she has no singing background. what gives her the right to judge singers.i think ai just wants a name to be on there.i think they caught a bunch of flak losing paula so they grabbed a big name to rectify this. just my opinion.
