I own an 88 Pontiac Fiero Formula with 1.1 million miles on it. Obviously the engine and trans have been rebuilt several times. However, this is not to say that the car itself has not held up to the abuse.. GM closed its Pontiac division..

The ONLY reason I would go with another GM product at this point would be to have a brand new car to drive across the country and back a couple times before returning it to GM. I wonder what kind of mileage restrictions GM will add, because if I put 12K miles on a car in a month, and then return it, its obviously not going to re-sell for nearly as much as a new car. Would be funny as hell to drive a car like that, return it, then buy it again off the "used" lot for a substantial discount...

GM, you really need to quit setting yourself up for being abused. Fire whoever came up with this program, fire the union employees and get non-union emps in, fire the idiots who continually insist that you have several "Brands" that do nothing but compete with each other for sales, and fire the engineering teams that make parts that arent cross line compatible. Shed the weight, and you might survive and return to profitability.

Or better yet, hire me to be the CEO, and I'll tick everyone off, then quit once I get the company running right..

Why should I buy GM when they are worth close to nothing
    in no time.
Imports run forever and hold their value.
GM pay attention to your product and your buyers!

What else to you expect GM to do, my current GM vehicle has 69k on it and has been the best car I have ever owned, my last car a Honda was a pile of junk and I will never buy another Honda under any circumstance, So give GM a chance you may be surprised how good it is and at the same time you will be supporting American jobs.

Well... I owned 2 GM cars (Olds and Chevy) and 1 Chrysler's (Grand Cherokee). Loved Jeep, but traded in after 130 K for Honda Pilot because of experience at dealership. Was ready to buy Commander, but sales person really ticked off my wife and we went across the road to Honda Dealership and were out in 1 hour with brand new Pilot. Love that car.
I just traded in my BMW under CARS program for Nissan Altima Hybrid. The only reason I went for Altima, because of gov bailout of GM and Chrysler. I was looking at GM cars to get one, but I did not feel that it would be justifiable to help GM again when none on the imports got any help and yet they produce better cars built in USA or Canada. So, I got Altima. Really happy with it too.

The only reason I would buy GM now, just for the author has mentioned. Buy, drive it for 30 or so days and give back. To get my "bail out" money back from GM sort of speak.

    Cheers everyone.

I presently have a 2006 GMC 4x4 with less than 50k miles. I treat it very well, change the oil, keep it clean, don't pull heavy loads or go off road much. I have had to replace the transimission at 38k miles, both tail/brake lights are broken and hanging by a thread. At the carwash when you apply soap it bubbles form all windows and door handles. Reminds me of the kids bubble toys. All this and its professional grade! Think long and hard before you buy.
