Your site is interesting. In terms of popularity your list could be right. Although some of Hogan's popularity was "falsely manufactured" by the WWF/E. He may have been very famous but I think he was mostly popular among young kids - not necessarily a lot of those in their teens, 20's and beyond.
I personally never liked Hulk Hogan. I thought and some ways still thinks he's a punk. He's was just a poster boy. If he never had that size he would never be champion. He's just a pretty boy with no real skill. He was a real pussy. In a real streetfight most of the other wrestlers I'm sure would kick his ass (guys like David "Dr. D" Schultz, Ricky Steamboat, etc.). He was really just a model pretty boy who was handed the title to promote the sport and WWF - so other wrestlers had to be very careful not to hurt him. He had no real wrestling moves - no suplex, no figure four, no bostun crab, no sunset flip, couldn't jump off the rope, no flying kick - nothing. All he could do was throw a fake punch, swing a guy into the ring corner and then fall on top of a guy when he was down. He was corny, phony and fake (no pun intended) as a $3 bill. In a way, you could say that his rise destroyed true hard core wrestling that most considered pure entertainment. He was the start of the phony looking type of wrestling that we have now. The "REAL" wrestlers of the WWF/E 80's are listed below:
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper
Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka (I think this guy took more risks than any other that I saw)
Don Muraco
Rocky Johnson
Superstar Billy Graham (early 80's)
And although Lou Albano wasn't wrestling then. He's synonymous with 80's wrestling and was pure entertainment.
We know wrestling was always fake. But Hulk Hogan was just a real pretty boy punk - and that's saying it nicely.
By the way, the WWF overall at that time couldn't hold a candle to Gordon Solie's Georgia Championship Wrestling of the early to mid 80's in terms of pure grass roots grit.
