I think people taking the poll are confused. They are talking about the portion of the Hackensack River that is between Newark and Bayonne, not actually the city Hackensack.

FireChief, what city are you talking about , that would benefit from connecting the Hudson/Bergen Lightrail to Newark??? As a resident of Jersey City, I would not want to be connected to Newark at all. No offense, but thats my personal opinion.

I don't know if any truly appreciates the overall benefits this system has already provided to the communities it's reached (and will reach in the future), but the sum of it is pretty huge. Aids job development, increases quality of life for many people, just to name a couple.
The route that it follows west of 440 is the old Jersey Central railroad route to downtown Newark. Can you imagine the benefit of connecting downtown Newark (and the two railroad stations there) to our community? With one change in Newark, you could go anywhere on any rail line in the state -- and beyond. It opens up tremendous job opportunities for our residents and for companies looking to relocate to our city.
Get this one done now and start thinking about that Newark connection. We needed that one 10 years ago!

Bringing the light rail over Route 440 will allow added traffic to the ailing retail stores at the Hudson Mall and Kmart/Pathmark stores. It also gives local residents more options for park-and-ride lots, and allows more access to the Hackensack Waterfront - where there's supposed to be a walkway someday.

Hopefully it will go to Country Village all the way to the Bayonne part of the village. There is absolutely no transportation near Country Village. Everyone seems to have forgotten us.
