I think that it's best to call something what it is: Engagement photos focus on the announcement. Wedding photos focus on the event itself. Bridal photos focus on showing off the bride, her choices, and her self-expression.
WHATEVER we're calling these: they are a portrait session centered on the groom and bride, allowing them to express both their personalities and highlight their relationship in a more intimate way than is possible when they're surrounded by parents and flower girls and florists, and schedules and business.
I think a more professional term would be something like "Intimate Bridal Couple Shoot" (bride + groom = Bridal Couple. Seriously. it's the right term, Just like saying the "Bridal Party" in reference to everyone in the wedding)
Or you could always be brutally honest: "Prenuptual Vanity Shots: I wanna have lots of ammo when I show my exes and frenemies how hot my man is and how good I looked in that dress. BONUS! After you've had five children, you'll have proof that you once did, in fact, wear a size 2."
