I was at the Cellar show for Nov 5th and I gotta say what a surprise Alexandria was! She is the youngest one and I heard she had only met her band two days before the show. I don't know too many people who could pull that off, but hats off to the young artist. Her songs were great and has amazing vocals. You got my vote girl! Can't wait to hear your songs on the radio.

  • Mike - 2 years ago

I hate to say it, but it's fairly safe to say that this voting thing is a joke. The online vote is nice in theory, as it encourages artists "rally the troops," but the unfortunate reality is that it encourages moronic behavior on the part of artists and their fans (e.g. IP masking). Not only that, but a 2 month voting period is WAY WAY WAY too long.

Now we have a situation where votes audited, and some artists have had anywhere from 500-2000 fraudulent votes taken away. That's all fine and dandy, but if you look closely every single artist has had some votes taken away. In many cases, it has been around 100 votes (or fewer). I find it very hard to believe that every single artist was deliberately cheating on such a small scale. I mean, why bother? Personally I have ZERO faith that PollDaddy is able to differentiate between legit and fraudulent votes 100% of the time. Did some artists lose legitimate votes thru the auditing process? Who knows. This needs to be addressed, IMO.

Also, if PollDaddy and the PPP now claim they are able to filter out fraudulent votes, why wasn't this done from the very beginning? Something isn't adding up - and it isn't just the fishy vote totals.

It is obvious that the PPP cannot guarantee the voting results are accurate. As such, it makes no sense that 20 or 25 % (or whatever) of the overall PPP is based on this fiasco.

Why not make something like songwriting 20% of the overall criteria, seeing that it is one of the most important elements of all? Without a potential hit song, artists will not even be marketable. Although every artist is very talented, some of the PPP finalists still don't have that "knock out" tune that they will need to gain mass appeal. Others do, so they should be rewarded.

    Just my 2 cents.....

Bodhi, is such a sweet guy and I'm so happy to see people coming through for him! One more vote for Bodhi!!!

  • Mr. Pumpkin - 2 years ago

    NKB.

Facebook fans have nothing to do with it. Just because Kuba had 2200 fans when you joined and now had 5000 fans has very little bearing on the voting.

I've checked out some of the other bands Facebook pages and Run The Red Light has 25,403 fans and 1,100 vote. The same goes for a lot of the other bands.

I'm not pointing fingers, just commenting on the Facebook fans vs. voting.

    Love,
    Mr. Pumpkin!

    Go ADALINE!!!!!

  • Lynn - 2 years ago

Keep on keeping on "The Left" will prove themselves the winners!

  • NKB - 2 years ago

    Hey all.

As a fan of Kuba Oms (discovered him through this contest), just wanted to say something. A month ago, I became an official facebook fan of his. I was one of about 2200 fans at the time. Because of all this drama, I just decided to check out his facebook support, because I remembered that 2200 number, and thought that it would look just a little bad if there weren't at least the same amount of facebook supporters to votes.

And, I am pleased to announce, that Kuba Oms has increased his fan base on facebook to just over 5000 fans. Don't point fingers, people.

And, yes, he is asking us to vote. I voted once. For him. Seems like a great guy, his music is fabulous.

    NKB

  • two5one - 2 years ago

Just as I and others feared, the voting process has been compromised. But, as I wrote earlier, PollDaddy will identify the fraudulent votes and adjust the vote totals accordingly. I'm grateful that vote fraud has been officially acknowledged and steps are being taken to ensure the integrity of the public vote. We once again have a fair competition, so all the artists and fans are winners.

  • Mr. Pumpkin - 2 years ago

lololol, looks like Sweetheart paid someone to hack Polldaddy and take votes off!!!! they're dead last!!!! But I love them!!

At least they're beating Jackson Cook...
    Go Sweetheart!!
    ...And go Jackson Cook!!!

    Re: Online Voting Concerns

Music BC and the Peak FM have been made aware of voting irregularities arising from the online voting for the Peak Performance Project. The online voting system is based on IP recognition software that only allows one vote per IP address (or theoretically one vote per computer). This seemed the fairest way to proceed. What has happened is that software has been used which tricks the browser into thinking that a new IP address is being used, when in fact the same computer is generating additional votes. This technology has allowed some artists to garner hundreds of extra votes.

    Read more here: http://www.peakperformanceproject.com/?p=1300

  • two5one - 2 years ago

    Confirmed by PollDaddy representative:

"A Pro user has access to the IP addresses of the votes cast on their polls, from these reports it's possible to identify fraudulent votes and remove them."

From this comment we learn two things: 1.) It is possible to attempt to cast fraudulent votes on PollDaddy, and, 2.) PollDaddy can ID fraudulent votes and remove them.

Bad news for cheaters, good news for honest artists and fans.

I retract my last statement the votes are still climbing steadily what a crock.

  • facepalm - 2 years ago

No kidding its suspicious two5some I like how it conveniently stopped as soon as he got first place I bet the votes would have gotten into the mid 3000's if people hadn't called him out.

  • two5one - 2 years ago

IT Pro appears to have expertise in how PollDaddy works. If we accept his/her claim that fraudulent votes couldn't be easily generated, it still doesn't account for sudden massive increases in vote totals (for example, a 50-100% rise in a few hours). That looks like mass voting of the suspicious kind. I welcome any reasonable, informed explanation or enlightenment.

Here is the scandal you wanted

    Not so great is it?

It is not fair for anyone to make any acusations.

All of these artists are hard working
Unfortunately they are now getting a taste of what it is like to be in the public eye.
    Be kind public!!!!!!

Let's wait and see how it all shakes down. This part of the contest is only half over!!!

  • IT Pro - 2 years ago

Anyone who thinks you can cheat in this vote by masking your IP has a poor understanding of how PollDaddy works. They actually record the mac address of your network card, not your IP address. You can use Hotspot Shield or a proxy server as much as you like to change your IP, but each computer can only vote once. Go ahead and check it out if you don't believe me. It would be possible to write a worm or virus to generate an army of botnets to vote, but you would suddenly wind up with hundreds of thousands or millions of votes... a little suspicious. I think it very unlikely that any of these talented competitors would even contemplate such a course of action.

  • HammerOfTheGods - 2 years ago

Anyone who doesn't know why Kuba Oms is the clear favorite should go see him perform live at the Cellar on Nov 5th at 8 pm sharp. Then you can tell your grandkids that you saw him perform in a little club back in the day! You can download his whole new album for free at:

    http://kubaoms.com/vote/

  • Jet - 2 years ago

I have a lot of respect for all these bands and for the two who used to be on top, We Are the City and The Left, it takes a ton of work and a ton of fans to get to 2500.

It doesn't matter if Kuba Oms cheated or not... the bottom line: strategy or cheating... really dumb... 50 new votes every 5 sec. I was refreshing my internet in disbelief as the numbers jumped. As a judge, I would be looking at networking/musician decisions how do fans & future fans see you. As a fan, now I have a bad taste for Kuba Oms. It's too bad.

  • two5one - 2 years ago

Facepalm's analysis is right on. There is little doubt that a focused, month-long effort could generate significant support. I believe that's how most of the artists have gathered votes. But for an artist to suddenly get huge vote totals in a few hours is quite unlikely, especially if that artist's support was soft in the first few weeks of the contest. It's obvious that votes cast at the beginning come from the artist's fan base. The tough work is to keep the vote growing after the hardcore fans have already come through. When that pattern is reversed something doesn't quite add up. Of course, the polling is electronic so the data will reveal patterns of ballot stuffing. It's good to know that if cheating is happening it will be impossible to hide. It won't be a matter of opinion. The data won't lie. I'm confident the polling company is on top of the situation. I just hope the public results won't be invalidated due to fraud. What a shame that would be!

  • facepalm - 2 years ago

2500 over the whole month is completely reasonable, the left and we are the city bounded out to early leads and then have slowly worked their way up into the 2000's but for a band to be just over 1000 votes and then be over 2000 by the end of the day is just shady.

  • Anonymous - 2 years ago

Hey Guys, Speaking as a member of one of the bands in this top 20 competition...who by the way is in the bottom half of the voting poll....I honestly don't believe anyone in this competition is cheating. It's not hard for me to believe that a talented, hard working artists, could get 2500 world wide votes in 1 month. I plan on getting many more votes in the coming month, so don't cast your judgments to quickly. It's un fair to the artists who are working hard at this and it's unfair to their supportive loyal fan base.

    Thanks for your passion

  • two5one - 2 years ago

I've too noticed some rather sudden, suspicious increases in vote totals. For example, some artists' totals jumped by a thousand in a 24 hour period. Ummm . . .makes you wonder if there's something dishonest going on. It doesn't necessary mean that the artists themselves are mucking things up. It could be some well meaning, but shady, fans behind it. I hope these voting irregularities haven't brought the legitimacy of the voting process into question. Anyway, the winning talent will rise to the surface with or without the public vote.

  • facepalm - 2 years ago

Lil - "As I understand it, the musician with the most votes isn't necessarily the winner of the whole contest. This is just one aspect of a much bigger project. The Peak just want to see who has fans -- so stop worrying about it!"

From what I understand its worth 30%, 30% is still a huge portion of what is basically a life changing contest. If it was worth 5% or something of the total decision then what ever lets see how it goes, who cares if someone decides they have to cheat.

Anyways I do understand they want to see how these bands rally the troops as it were but the internet is a completely invalid way to do polls (do we vote our government in online? hell no the public would never stand for it)

I check these polls every day and it saddens me to see someone suddenly take advantage of this situation. however I would never say the artist themselves are responsible rather an over zealous fan but unfortunately the end result is the same.

  • Lil - 2 years ago

As I understand it, the musician with the most votes isn't necessarily the winner of the whole contest. This is just one aspect of a much bigger project. The Peak just want to see who has fans -- so stop worrying about it!

  • David - 2 years ago

Ok, someone needs to address this IP address thing - for those artists who are working really hard to get each vote, if there is a way to get around the IP address thing, and people are exploiting it, someone needs to say something! So unfair.

  • facepalm - 2 years ago

Some peoples votes have jumped like 500+ in a few hours if you are going to spam in extra votes at least be discreet about it.

and in before someone says "omg only 1 vote per IP", there are lots of ways around that which is the entire reason internet poles are completely invalid.

Positity is what most people are lacking here. To all the performers who are reading over these, which im sure you all already know; stay positive, humble and keep the negativity out. When all of these people become famous in their own way, there is always going to be haters! But even more important, there is always going to be support. Stay positive and keep doing what you're doing, because you all made it this far, and the people who are the haters didnt. Like the comment before, keep laughing all the way to the bank!!! Because once you have enough to put in the bank, they will all of a sudden be your number one fan!

    :O
And did you know that, like, all of the artists have done something great with their songs?

For instance, Run The Red Light won a John Lennon award, and Alexandria Maillot sold a song to Universal Europe.

You're talking to us like we're retarded. All the artists are here for a reason: Because they're great. Tea is awesome, don't get me wrong. Just... don't talk to us like you're trying to prove a point. We get it.

  • Ray - 2 years ago

    Dear "Kids" and all voters,
Now that we all know who was the "In a Minute" winner, I would also like to ask you this: did you guys know that TEA's song "Fire & Flame" won the top prize at the 2008 ISC, in R&B category, among more than 15000 songs from all over the globe? That is telling you something about her great talent.

Hate to play 'The devil's Advocate' but...

    Is everybody a Christian here?

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I mean HECK- the ties run DEEP in this competition. The top 3 bands need to be GREAT songwriters. They need to have a GREAT image. They need to be RADIO READY, and furthermore they must be able to appeal to a broader audience than that of (not only BC) but Canada and BEYOND! I would hate for this to be a 'vote-for-the-band-thats-good-and-wholesome' competition. What a laughing stock this entire project would become. "Hey, you guys go to church AND you play in a band...you're a shoe-in for winning this thing!" what a joke.

It's ENTERTAINMENT PEOPLE! Gimme a severed hand, a sex scandal, a substance problem... SOMETHING! Otherwise we know who'd win this thing judging by the voting pews...I mean polls.

  • Kids - 2 years ago

    Dear Ray;

Tea won first prize for their song "in a minute".

    She's awesome!

  • Jr. - 2 years ago

    Good opinion!
    Articulate and honestly said.
    I appreciate hearty dialogue.
Especially that you took the time to read thru the earlier comments.

"Sometimes you need to look through others' eyes, hear through others ears."

    ergo my comment;

"hmmmmmmmmm. I imagine that the image of who they are is in the eyes of the beholder."

I would likely say that you and I are coming from the same page, just as the two groups are, and will just have to kindly agree to disagree on the image thing.

Best to all groups and oh yes I am a Facebook fan of "We are the City", "The Left" members are also I believe, that is how I got turned onto them in the first place.

    By the way I donnt drink coffee, its not good for you ;}

  • paulie - 2 years ago

My vote is for WE ARE THE CITY.
I love their music because it's so original.

All the talk about videos...See their great "time wasted" video on you tube.
    It's brilliant.

There is alot of talent in this contest, good luck to all!

  • Hate to be a prude - 2 years ago

Ok, Jr (father of one of the members of the left) and CA who is obviously up close and personal with the left.......

I'm not doubting that your boys are the nicest, kindest and the sweetest....
I did watch the video and saw the coffee.....
But still for me, that song as my introduction to their music just puts me in the mind of the beer drinkin' good ol' boys rockers.
Part of this contest is about image as well, guys. Sometimes you need to look through others' eyes, hear through others ears.

    Just my opinion...

  • CA - 2 years ago

hello Hate To Be A Prude... have you watched the Drinking About You music video? it's about coffee :) i have been a fan of THE LEFT for years and i know that upon writing this song they had the title Thinking About You, but they found it to be too cheezy. somebody jokingly suggested 'Drinking', but the band did not want to make it about alcohol, so they made it about coffee instead. they are actually a good bunch of guys with healthy values and beliefs, much like We Are The City, actually. those two bands became good friends at the boot camp because they had much in common in that regard. i think that you would really appreciate their good clean "make you think" lyrics if you were to listen to the rest of their music. try going to thesixtyone. they have more music there. thanks so much for sharing, and i really hope that you can see their true colors.

  • Ninja - 2 years ago

Kuba Oms Rocks!! He's the BJ Pen of music!!

  • Jr. - 2 years ago

    re: The Left

"sex drugs and rock and roll image", that of course is subjective, based on a superficial overview of simply the title of their song/video.

Their video is about a misplaced love (sex) because of ironic circumstances then learning the joys of caffiene (okay here's the drugs), catchy rythem (rock and roll)

    hmmmmmmmmm.

I imagine that the image of who they are is in the eyes of the beholder.

Who they are can be simply stated in the last paragraph of their bio on their web page. (I pasted it in here for those who donnt want to venture into there)

"Lots of people say they come up with music when they're in the darkest
place in your life," explains Eric Davis. "We're the opposite. We all feel
loved and appreciated. None of us ran away from home or anything. Our
    slogan is 'taking fun seriously'."

  • Ray - 2 years ago

There is no doubt that all of these artists are really, really, really good. However, could somebody please remind me, who won the top prize for "In a Minute" song?

  • hate to be a prude.... - 2 years ago

I agree with alot of the comments about The Left's music being "catchy". I must admit I've never seen them live so all I have to base my opinion on is their myspace song "drinkin' about you". I really hate that song title and the fact that the phrase "drinkin' about you" in the chorus is the the catchy part. I just hate the sex, drugs, rock and roll image....
So many people seem to love The Left and I hope there is more to them than that image.
Having said all that WE ARE THE CITY gets my vote for excellent musicianship, unique "make me think" lyrics and good clean fun!!!!
    I love you guys!!!

  • Stephie - 2 years ago

Bodhi jones for the win! Amazing artist who totally deserves this.

  • curvy - 2 years ago

i just have to say that THE LEFT is great because they appeal to a wide demographic. i am in my 50's and i love them; as do all my co-workers. my 12 and 15 year old neice and nephew also listen to THE LEFT with all of their friends and try to get into any all-ages-shows that they can. then there is my "20-something" son who is into all the new music scene. he loves rock and indy and stuff, and he really loves THE LEFT. so kudos to them for being catchy and unique and likeable and appealing to the masses. i'm sure that is hard to do. and they've done it!

The Left is sooo deserving to be #1. They played at my highschool prom yyyeaars ago and they were awesome then. But now their synergy and talent has skyrocketed and puts them in a level above the rest. Go The Left!!!!

  • connoisseur - 2 years ago

Wow, what amazing talent coming from all of these bands, so many different music genres being represented. So this project is supposed to choose based on Musicianship, Vocal performance, Songwriting ability, Live performance, Artist benefit description, and Suitability for AAA radio format. Now all these musicians excel in musicianship, but I think those that have their own sound, are original should be the ones getting the points here. As for vocal performance, obviously all these artists can sing, but the maybe when there are more voices working together, the harder it is, with this in mind, I would probably give more credit to those bands with more voices to work with (maybe that's not fair, but it would be hard to make decisions based on any other factor here). Song writing ability was covered during the bootcamp and it was made apparent which musicians excelled in that department. I would base live performances on how the crowd reacts during the music and even in between, it's one thing to have a crowd jumping around while the music is playing but what happens in between, is it that awkward silence? The artist benefit description..... well this one I think means who would most benefit by winning? If my guess is right, then I would vote for a band that is pretty new to the music scene based on the fact that they are already good enough to have been chosen for this project (look how far they have gotten in such a short period of time). And of course suitability for Adult album alternative radio, sounds straight forward and easy enough, just turn on the fm radio station of your choice and listen to what they play. Now based on all this information, I think the polls are pretty bang on! My vote does go to the boys from WE ARE THE CITY because they excel in all the different areas being judged on, but mostly they stand apart from all the rest because of the originality of their music and the fact that they haven't been around that long. Good Luck to all though!

  • Caran - 2 years ago

I have listened to all the performers and they are all great...however, my vote goes to 16 year old Alexandria Maillot. She has already caught the eye of the likes of David Foster and others in the music business...and in my opinion she is the one to watch.

I read a comment from "just me" and "Mad Person" mentioned it was referring to Alexandria Maillot...I think we should note that maybe we should consider the comment wasn't referring to her at all. If it was, then I'm quite surprised that anyone would consider Alexandria Maillot "into herself". Obviously, if this comment was directed to her...then this person does not know her at all. Check out her myspace and you will certainly agree. www.myspace/alexandriamaillot

Having followed her career for some time she has always come across as a very private, caring person and sometimes, quite shy. Maybe her shyness is the thing that "just me" has interpreted as being "into herself". Maybe it would be best if "just me" would simply grow up, show some integrity (guts) and name the person to whom he/she was referring. It would show others that you really are a decent person and that you aren't afraid to have your opinion known. Only those who are insecure, emotionally underdeveloped or have something to hide will write negative comments about a person without making it clear as to who they are talking about. If you mean it...say it. I invite and challenge you to make your opinion very clear by naming this person you think is "into herself" and in doing so you will partially redeem yourself in front of "your" peers. If you choose not to respond then we'll all know you fit the above description and therefore will make any and all comments you make unimportant and insignificant.

"Mad Person" mentioned the age Alexandria represents and I agree they are the hardest to deal with...sometimes teenagers, because of their lack of maturity/life experiences are very quick to judge and in doing so can be quite mean. In the past many young singers and entertainers have gone through very similar situations where some of their peers have been jealous of their success and attention they receive and it can make for a very difficult time for any young person to excel in the arts.

Anytime anyone is on the rise there will be others who will try to pull them back down. It's the unfortunate nature of the jungle we live in. My advice to Alexandria...when you do make it, everytime you go to the bank...do it with a smile. As for your detractors....anyone who lives their life engulfed in negativity won't be going to the bank with big deposits...they will only be going with their hands out.

Kudos to Music BC, The Peak and all the other people involved for helping to develop a wonderful, nuturing and supportive environment in which to learn and grow as artists in BC.

Adaline all the way! She has the work ethic, the talent, the personality, the sound, the song writing ability, and she really cares about her fans.

My first vote is for Adaline, second, Bend Sinister and third, We Are The City.

The Left deserves this. They have an all around good package and great music. And really when it comes down to it the music is what makes a band and The Left has awesome music.

The Painted Birds totally rock!! They are definitely the one of the most talented out of the bunch.

Interviewed Adaline for her show in Grande Prairie Alberta. She was on a pay phone on the side of the highway and almost ran out of quarters. Despite the situation she gave a professional interview and prepared us for seeing the show that night.

I had the pleasure of watching Bodhi Jones play at Section 3 last night and his music really touched my heart n soul. I'll say the groups playing last night were really great as well, but there's just something really special about Bodhi. Anyway, he's got my vote! Hope he wins it all!

I love THE LEFT... especially their "Drinking About You" song. I'm in my 50's and really appreciate the young sound and the clean look. Good for them in delivering to a broad agegroup.

Regarding comments about "popularity contest. I'm sure there are many artists on the list that should be recognized but the reality is... no matter how good you are, you have to be able to sell yourself. They haveTHE LEFT has a fabulous new website, http://www.theleft.ca They have a free download of my favourite song! Now that's marketing.

The reality of the business world is this....
Good Music + Good Marketing = Good Money for Sponsors or whomever.

By the way... I heard of THE LEFT by word of mouth. Will I spend my music money on them? You bet! I love 'em! That's the power of networking and "popularity contests". Vote for THE LEFT!!!

to the "just me" person. there are only three girls in this competition, and from the sounds of things, you sound like ayounger person, fitting in to the category of voting for Alexandria Maillot. if im right, then i pretty feel obligated to call you an idiot.

i obviously support Alexandria Maillot, so i dont take this too lightly. i know how hard she has been working, and i know it has been the least bit easy for her. she is not high on herself; its something called advertising and promoting herself. its a key part of this conversation, and if you were a part of it, then youd figure that out for yourself. everyone has been doing their best on getting people to vote for them, and i know Alexandria Maillot has had to talk to basically every single perso personally who has voted for her. and, i am asuming that is what you are calling the "spam" part of it. its because of ignorant people like you who dont take the time to know and understand her that makes it even more difficult for her to get the votes. you dont know how hard it is for her, and i dont expect to you try and understand. she is no where near high on herself; but if you mean her believing in what she does and trying her best to get there being high on herself, then i guess youre right, im proud of her for being true to herself and not takin the shitty feedback shes been gettin from everyone she has spoken to. and, another thing, Alexandria Maillot has her family and friends voting for her, which means most of her friends are teenagers/yuong adults. meaning she has the hardest people to talk to, because they are most insecure, rude, and critical. so, i get why she is having to talk to eeryone person, cause she is having a hell of a time.

ahhh, enough with this ranting. youre just another stubborn idiot who doesnt get it. but, at least you found someone you like. i quite frankly dont give a crap about who you voted for, although her asking you to do it means you probably should have helped her out, well, at least thats what i wouldave done. but it just bugs me that you feel you are obligated to talk about her that way, when you obviously have no idea who she is, considering you are a friend of a friend of hers. dont be so quick to judge, i wish i could tell that to everyone she is trying to get to support her. because you are all just way too immature to figure out she isnt high oh herself, she is just trying to get people to help her out.

please dont say something back, cause i dont really care. anyways, I love this project! its awesome!!!!
