About 2/3 of our students at Pellissippi State require developmental course work. Many of those students have never been self-motivated independent learners. If we allow them to enroll in an online course without screening them for background information, they are likely to fail, because succeeded in an online course requires them to be more independent than they have ever been in school. Since most of them think taking an online course is easier than a land-based course, they will fail.
