Is it appropriate for the White House to use the stature of the office and a taxpayer-funded blog to wage attacks on the press?

• Yes. The president has every right to defend himself by any means against all attacks and opposing viewpoints, even from the press.

• Yes. But if the president disagrees with the press he should respond directly, not through proxies, and not by using a taxpayer funded blog -- his staff just sound like whiners.

• No. The press has a duty and right to present opposing viewpoints. The attacks demean the office of the president.
