Keeping the debrief information in mind, was the un-group activity what you expected?

I was intrigued by the asynchronous limitation at the beginning, but it became apparent that decision making in that environment can be very difficult. Contributions and collaboration were certainly effective, but debating the inclusion of material, and even agreeing on a schedule was hard without being able to respond directly and to clearly and easily define a "vote".

Crowdsourcing was unfamiliar to me as a term, although I conceptually knew about it, and have/had participated in it. Before our ungroup assignment, I never would have considered using Google docs to be a limited type of crowdsourcing, and yet it fits the bill. For me, this added a layer of meaning to the assignment that was unexpected, and interesting.
As for "value of the product" with tag clouds, as Derek mentioned in the debrief, there can be quite a difference. Thanks,
    Steph
p.s.- it's being an "ungroup" assignment vs. a "group" assignment certainly didn't decrease my level of commitment to it. I still felt accountable as a group member, even though the contributions were asynchronous, and thus I put quite a bit of thought into it, and checked our evolving document multiple times for new content. I think the knowledge that new stuff could emerge piqued my interest...

I just read professor's comment about the un_group assignment.
The un_group questions were hard to answer, and I was thinking and thinking for answers to these questions all week!
It is funny because on Monday night, I started to think "hummm, maybe the professor assigned this so that the students could experience being a part of a crowd-sourcing!"

I was not familiar with these terms so I am glad to know what these terms mean and what these tools can do!

I dislike group projects and I appreciated that Derek incorporated an un-group project into the course. However, I felt that at times it still involved much more communication, coordination and questioning and answering among groupmates than was truly necessary to complete the assignment. This is probably due to that fact that we are all worried about getting a good grade. :)
