My dear friend Jane Doe, unfortunately your comment seems somewhat contradictory. I agree, forcing kids to live sheltered lives is absurd and in the end I am not so sure it does them any good at all. However, in order for kids to, as you say, "have a chance to decide what they think about it rather than being told what to think about it" they need not have the ideas forced upon them, by parents OR by advertising. They can know that "these places are out there;" without images being put directly in front of them without that being their choice. If you are arguing for the legitimate choice of individuals rather than opinions about it being made for them, then shouldn't a 12 year old boy at least be able to make up his mind on the idea without an image of a naked woman in front of him? Your argument seems to be based on the idea that people should be able to make their own choices, then let's do that and remove the explicit advertising from places people have no choice but to see them.

The kids are going to see it somewhere anyways, they might as well know that these places are out there; then they have the chance to decide what they think about it rather than being told what to think of it. It's obvious that kids are even more curious about things that are kept hidden from them. I think its time to stop hiding our kids under a rock... i mean yes there's a line not to cross, but in the end its wrong to set our children up for a world better than it really is... it's a lie.

.......And people wonder why "Crime" and other forms of "Personal Abuse" (in all it's ugly form) is on the increase!
Shame! on the governing systems, for allowing our society to come down to this!

I believe that people should have a choice whether or not to view this type of material...not have it "thrust" upon them, so to speak. What people do in the privacy of their own home is their business, but I do not wish to see it, or have my daughter "exposed" to it.
