Should patrons be obligated to leave a gratuity mandated by an establishment if the service is poor?

Most restaurants that have a mandatory tip percentage for groups over a certain number have those terms listed right on the menu or the group is informed of those terms when they arrive. If you are aware of those terms prior to being served you are obligated to those terms....whether the service is good or bad. That is a chance you take.

I must agree with Rod Nace on this one and I've done alot of waitressing in my day..when a business charges the 18%..thats all we give...and most get 20% from us as a couple and as a family w/ married kids of our own....if we would have waited for service the way these 2 had..the manager would have been called to our table and bad publicity would have left when we did. AND we are business owners with a name that comes highly recommended. The restaurant field is a tough one these days...owner better think twice here.

I will always leave a tip the amount depends on the service that is giving I feel that I should not be required to leave a tip as per what the establishment says if the service is good then you will get an good tip if the service is Great then you'll get a great tip and if the service is poor then you'll get an ok tip

I feel that establishments are wrong for trying to force the general public to pay their employees wages. That's right their wages. Give them at least min. wage and leave the gratuity to the customer!! IF the service is good they WILL get their gratiuity. When you give good service the gratuity will come and the customer will return! REMEMBER one thing WORD OF MOUTH IS THE BEST ADDVERTIZEMENT!!!! IT CAN MAKE YOUR BUSS. OR HURT IT!! The choice is yours. Judge Gonzalez I ask you to toss this case.

    Thank You

I do not think its right that an establishment can set a gratuity and make it mandatory for its patrons to pay for that gratuity. I think that District Judge Nancy Matos Gonzalez should throw this case out. As for Lehigh Pub, at 4 S. New St., Bethlehem, PA, you do not have to worry about any of my friends or me coming to your establishment, because we do not go to establishments that add a gratuity to the bill. As for college students Leslie Pope and John Wagner, good luck to both of you and I hope you beat this!
