What do you think about the new 5-minute parking grace period?

This is pandering to drivers. Do we get our $2.25 back if we have to wait 5 extra minutes for an MTA bus? No. If you break the law, you should be held accountable. A grace period isn't common sense - common sense is enforcing the parking laws on the books.

This is about sending a message and codifying common sense. Common sense has been missing from ticketing for some time now. As for the budget, a few extra tickets will not close that gap. I think budgetary priorities are all screwed up. Too many tax breaks! Union workers at least pay taxes. Too many folks don't!

I believe this will cause more chaos then it will do any good. While it is a good idea to help out commuters by giving them a few extra minutes, it is coming at the wrong time. This was reported shortly after the Mayor declared budgets cuts for Schools, and Police/Fire. If the tickets make money for the budget, it doesnt make sense to be leniant, while other major departments are suffering and making cuts. Making budgets cuts for schools and citizens public safety should Never be an option !
