Every time you tell a friend about Florida Hometown Democracy a crooked politician cries.

For forty years Florida has been devastated by the economic paradigm that growth is the best thing since ketsup. Ignoring our loss of agricultural acreage, the raiding of North Florida rivers to fuel the excesses of rapidly growing Orange County, the continuous pollution of our offshore waters, the Growth Mentality is forging our continued destructive land use practices.

With nearly 19 million people in Florida now, what do you think will happen if the construction industry, chambers of commerce and complicit politicians keep the status quo? Never mind all the 400,000 empty houses, the foreclosures, the congested roads and overcrowded classrooms. Water is the ultimate concern and desal and reverse osmosis are not the answer. Beware Florida of the extent to which the legislature will go to kill the Hometown Democracy amendment. Democracy be damned.

Voters and taxpayers have given developers and Commissioners everything they wanted until now, and all voters/taxpayers wanted in return was a good quality of life. Instead they were ignored when they asked for it, instead they got the cold shoulder when they went to Commission meetings and asked them not to allow comp plan amendments that allow more density (homes) than the present comp plan allows, and now we see that these same developers and Commissioners did what was good for them instead.
These taxpayers are saying now, we are paying for all this growth, I don't see why we shouldn't have the final word on growth, and in my opinion they should...period. That's exactly what Florida Hometown Democracy will do and I'm for it, developers have had there say on increasing density in their growth plans, and the result or mess is all around us which contributed to our country's economy down turn, now it's time for our say on it, it's obvious to me developers/Commissioners can't do it for the benefit of all of us.
    Sincerely,
    Joe Florio
