there was no timer on my machine....the test took time to load and when i called the proctor,he told not to press the start the test button...the test would start within 5 -10 minutes and the time would start when the first question appears on the screen......but to my surprise...the test ended 10 minutes early....why are students paying for dysfunctional softwares? i was totally disgusted with the experience....to top it all...the stupid proctor didn't even allow us to have water before the exam started!!!

d cat was a pieceof shit. d most prestigious xam of our country has been put 2 shame. In my case at GNIT 6DEC v wer askd nt 2 use d Review option as it ws nt functional nd ran a risk of premature end 2 d test. This wasted atleast 15-20 mins as v had 2 press next for each question nd which tuk ages 2 cum 2 d nxtques. In my case der wer figures missing for my quant section. Dis lead 2 a panic nd another 5-10 mins wasted. I could do nly 35 ques which is a pity. cud hav reachd d figure of 42-45 if not for the abov fiasco.

Just about 20k out of almost 2.6lakh students who appeared had to face problems ( in whichever way they were ) . for all u cribbin of havin prepared hard n cryin foul , DATS LESS THAN 10 % . this means less that 1 in 10 students faced a glitch.. y shud the remainin 10 suffer . most of whom had no issues takin their exam. i took it on 7th.. i had demons n sleepless nights too.. i had pop ups disturbing me as well.. but i will still maintain that those who faced the problems shud be given a rescehduled date and NOT A CAT RETEST... that wil NOT BE FAIR..

No ,CAT should not be held again. Understood, it did not go as expected for the first 2 days . But just for the credibility sake , is it justified to take the exam again ? What about those lakhs of students who gave the exam in the last 8 days(which went perfect) as compared to the thousands for the first 2 days. With no offence to anyone (who had a torrid time giving CAT initially) , a re-sheduled CAT would be an apt way to test those aspirants who were not tested initially. Rest, not denying the fact that even i would have to give the exam again if it is re-scheduled but then , why not speak your heart out when given a chance.

Vignesh, it looks like u dint understand wat that person is trying to say.. CAT is giving retest chance only for those who had total break down.. Besides that, there were many temporary slags in many centers, which brought down the exam tempo and the ppl had to cope up with all those.. that was definitely not a fair treatment.. and in case there s a low score, wats CAT gonna reward them with???
P.S: u can talk as u would hav been provided with '2.15 tension free hrs' for those 60 questions.. trying standing on the other side !!

Well, dont u feel there is a big confusion about 'Will I become A Manager in future??' , due to these glitches.. when that question itself is under threat, y not opt for another equal fair chance..
And the CAT team is not a kid who's job is only to play a video clip.. Its efficient enuf to fix its own fault.. Only the 'when, how' thing is what it should be planning right now..

Guys it is not only about who was able to take test and who was not. There are lots of issues other than rescheduling of exams. I appeared for cat on 2nd of dec and till that date there were no complain at my center. When I started taking exam, I found that I was not able to see few DI questions, I had attempted 14 DI before time but couln't attempt more coz of this. I went to English section and found that there was only one question associated with RC that was visible. I was not able to find the scroll on the right to view next question. Proctor said they cant do anything, but one more guy came and resized the screen for me and I was able to see the scroll bar. I attempeted english section but couldnt attempt 5-6 question in DI. Examination temprament got spoiled coz of this. And I also learnt that all the students who sat on that chair would have faced this issue(8 slots) and they complained about not able to see few questions. The bigger question is "AM I RESPONSIBLE TO RESIZE MY COMPUTER SCREEN AND MAKE IT PERFECT TO BE ABLE TO ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS????"

Ok ok...for people for whom it didnt go well want a RETEST...its justified becasue their exam didnt go well...BUT what abt those whose exam went well without any problem...you people also need to think abt them...out of the 2.5Lakh students only around 10K had a problem..now you cant make everyone write the exam again...its not fair...its really difficult to sit and prepare again...i mean...there are other Managment entrance exams as well.when are we going to prepare for that??????
Lets wait for the IIMs to take a call on this..im sure they will not make it UNFAIR for anyone..
but making all students write the test again..makes no SENSE at all

CAT in CBT format is better than Paper based test. Problems were same for all CAT aspirants. i dun think there is any point sending a petition against iims..............................

CAT was a bad experience not for a few intellects but for a lot of them. Why dont you spend some time looking at the polls and horrible experiences of people on various forums? Your second argument is again flawed as a significant number of candidates experienced hostile test taking environment and not all so this clearly emplies the test has not been fair.

By the time you posted this comment of yours to enlighten people, majority of them had given their tests and we can definitely do without your expert advice on what to do and not to do. No one has ever been against CAT going online. All we demand is a fair test. CAT being online for the first time is an excuse, not a reason for what all we had to go through. I, personally, had a good test but I strongly condemn the way in which CAT was conducted and demand a paper based re-test.

Just concentrate on your questions and answer them in the best possible way; and stop cursing the IIMs... moreover it's the first time CAT is made online, so certain irregularities are meant to be bearable.....
Take this physical trauma/torture or whatever people are calling this as a part of the test, and rather be prepared for it....

But when the results be declared, they will crib that it wasnt fair, because, the rate at which people are taking advantage of this chaos and commotion will leave u far behind in the line of percentiles.

My exam was good enough..No glitches,complete cooperation from proctors.. But I don't know what I'll say if someone asks me if I want a retest.. So many people have faced problems, with rescheduled tests,hung computers,noisy invigilators and what not.. Also, questions seem to be repeated from the previous yr papers and also from the first 2 days of the exam..Some are saying that even RCs are being repeated!!!!!! I don't know how much credibility these statements have.. But what if they are true?? How is it fair to the students who appeared in the first 2 days of the exam??
We weren't even allowed to take water inside..What makes them do that?????? 5hrs without water on a stressful day like this....
There was a student in my room whose computer got hung just 3 seconds before end of test..He must have been lucky to get extra time to solve a question while his computer was being repaired...
IIMs need to come up with some response....

CAT is losing its credibility .. my cat exam was good but still i want a retest because i think it was not fair friends were standing together they even got an opportunity to sit next to each other .. if possible paper pencile test should be held again or if not then fine CBT but atleast that should be fair.

I was not able to give my paper with full concentration as my system got hanged thrice. also i faced problem while switching from one page to other.. after the preparation for last six months i think i had lost my hope to clear even cut off... one thing is for sure, though many students had gone through no problems ,,, but many their are like me who had suffered this year due to this technical problem... this exam must be re-scheduled.
In patna an mba coaching institution registered for cat at a time with THE TEACHERS(that means teachers were also giving the examination with their students)so they got the registration number in a serial and most IMPORTANTLY they also got seated in a line at the time of examination.THE TEACHERS solved the answers and passed the answers to their students and iims have not taken any action yet
RUBBISH my cat was ghatia,I gave the exam on 3 dec MORNING SESSION the di was very tough and some lr questions had options out of which two were correct,then the english was moderate.Yesterday my friends said that their paper was very easy but today it was tough,WHAT KIND of a system of examination is this -one day easy other day tough.CAT EXAMINATION SHOULD BE RECONDUCTED.A prof of iim said that they have invested a lot of funds on prometric and it would be "A MERE WASTE OF FUNDS" but if they dont reconduct it will be"A MERE WASTE OF TALENT"- FINE A MISTAKE IS DONE BY MAKING THIS ONLINE BUT THE IIMs SHOULD RECTIFY THIS MISTAKE BY ACCEPTING THE FACT THAT THE MISTAKE IS DONE AND IT CAN ONLY BE RECTIFIED BY RECONDUCTING IT.- BETTER TO BE LATE THAN NEVER

CAT2009 is a fiasco.Period.We want a retest(paper pencil).I am a victim of the improper guidance about the user interface.And if IIMs are considering this test for their admits,those who get into IIMs this year are "Lucky Ones".And @RAMBO.Not everyone falls into your 70% category.Do respect others' sentiments.The sad part is that CAT lost its sanctity.CAT is such an exam that poses a challenge and comes with a surprise(there is 0% surprise in CAT2009 with repetition of questions).My opinion is that CAT should never be online(unless all 2 lakhs sit infront of the computer at the same time),because GRE ,GMAT are exams that are basic criteria to get into top schools and profile matters most in deciding the candidates.But CAT is an elimination exam.Here you cannot play the game as you play GRE GMAT.Here, CAT score matters most.And CAT is more of an exam of Mental alertness and Skills.Poor exams conditions and lack of proper infrastructure in the test labs did not let the students concentrate.Prometric sullied the reputation of the IIMs.IIM authorities should drop their ego,file lawsuit against Prometric for its unpreparedness ,empathize with the students and take a decision so that the admits are based on fairplay. Lets hope for the best and let CAT come with a fresh look in Jan or Feb2010.

I have already appeared fro CAT 0n 2nd dec and what I feel that CBT is a very good option than the Paper Based test. Might be some people faced some problems in first 2 days but now test is going on very well and what I thought do not need to retest and one more thing 3 of my friends paper was reschedule but before rescheduling their test Prometric ask for their choice of center and date and this is in Delhi where most of student are giving test.

Many Candidates burn midnight oil and seriously prepare for CAT to land up in IIMs or in top 15 Colleges. But what happens to them is that they are not able to appear on scheduled dates, rather their appointment is randomly rescheduled irrespective of their inconvenience to travel to a random center at some time on any date, then on the rescheduled time they are asked to stand outside for [b]ONLY 5.5 hours[/b]. Then some are sent back again while a handful get to give the paper. Then when the already frustrated candidate enters the test lab to his/her surprise the system keeps on logging out and the candidate [b]has to forward 40 questions to reach to DI/Quant section which was being attempted[/b], not to mention the time loss, panic and instability it adds. To top it all the SO-CALLED PROFESSIONAL INVIGILATORS create a ruckus inside the Lab some discussing their personal issues , some fighting with their girlfriends/wife over the mobile,some actually calling [b]Prometric[/b] and discussing why there were delays and other issues, while some leave their mobiles with [b]wonderful bollywood ring [/b][b]tones[/b] to exasperate the already so frustrated and apprehensive candidate. Some candiates were into discussions in test lab, while others toiled with test, Only God knows whether they had completed the test or not as they still were on their respective systems and the invigilators SLEPT right!! Yes I agree this is not the case for all the test centers. BUT IT WAS FOR ME and many other very sincere Candidates who are left on the mercy of this UNFAIR and I'll say WHIMSICAL CONDUCT from the IIMs.
CAT this year is a BIASED DICE GAME, and Sadly many deserving candidates will lose in this gamble.
I would sincerely request the IIMs to conduct another paper pencil CAT this year to give all the candidates a fair trial.

hi guys ,another frustrating nd xhausted day of cat xam but 'phew' we were enabled to sit for the xam ,mind u on the second day.i must say the days were double 'd' days.the devils sitting across the servers(prometric) and shhh iims too were not satiated with what they made us to suffer on the first day ,a new day and a new suspense whether we'll be able to sit for the xams,nd the next was the server crisis in the lab which was damn pestering.To sum up cat belled everyone rather i should say screwed everyone.

Also, questions seem to be repeated from the previous yr papers and also from the first 2 days of the exam..Some are saying that even RCs are being repeated!!!!!! I don't know how much credibility these statements have.. But what if they are true?? How is it fair to the students who appeared in the first 2 days of the exam??
We weren't even allowed to take water inside..What makes them do that?????? 5hrs without water on a stressful day like this....
There was a student in my room whose computer got hung just 3 seconds before end of test..He must have been lucky to get extra time to solve a question while his computer was being repaired...
IIMs need to come up with some response....
CAT is losing its credibility .. my cat exam was good but still i want a retest because i think it was not fair friends were standing together they even got an opportunity to sit next to each other .. if possible paper pencile test should be held again or if not then fine CBT but atleast that should be fair.

I was not able to give my paper with full concentration as my system got hanged thrice. also i faced problem while switching from one page to other.. after the preparation for last six months i think i had lost my hope to clear even cut off... one thing is for sure, though many students had gone through no problems ,,, but many their are like me who had suffered this year due to this technical problem... this exam must be re-scheduled.
In patna an mba coaching institution registered for cat at a time with THE TEACHERS(that means teachers were also giving the examination with their students)so they got the registration number in a serial and most IMPORTANTLY they also got seated in a line at the time of examination.THE TEACHERS solved the answers and passed the answers to their students and iims have not taken any action yet
RUBBISH my cat was ghatia,I gave the exam on 3 dec MORNING SESSION the di was very tough and some lr questions had options out of which two were correct,then the english was moderate.Yesterday my friends said that their paper was very easy but today it was tough,WHAT KIND of a system of examination is this -one day easy other day tough.CAT EXAMINATION SHOULD BE RECONDUCTED.A prof of iim said that they have invested a lot of funds on prometric and it would be "A MERE WASTE OF FUNDS" but if they dont reconduct it will be"A MERE WASTE OF TALENT"- FINE A MISTAKE IS DONE BY MAKING THIS ONLINE BUT THE IIMs SHOULD RECTIFY THIS MISTAKE BY ACCEPTING THE FACT THAT THE MISTAKE IS DONE AND IT CAN ONLY BE RECTIFIED BY RECONDUCTING IT.- BETTER TO BE LATE THAN NEVER

CAT2009 is a fiasco.Period.We want a retest(paper pencil).I am a victim of the improper guidance about the user interface.And if IIMs are considering this test for their admits,those who get into IIMs this year are "Lucky Ones".And @RAMBO.Not everyone falls into your 70% category.Do respect others' sentiments.The sad part is that CAT lost its sanctity.CAT is such an exam that poses a challenge and comes with a surprise(there is 0% surprise in CAT2009 with repetition of questions).My opinion is that CAT should never be online(unless all 2 lakhs sit infront of the computer at the same time),because GRE ,GMAT are exams that are basic criteria to get into top schools and profile matters most in deciding the candidates.But CAT is an elimination exam.Here you cannot play the game as you play GRE GMAT.Here, CAT score matters most.And CAT is more of an exam of Mental alertness and Skills.Poor exams conditions and lack of proper infrastructure in the test labs did not let the students concentrate.Prometric sullied the reputation of the IIMs.IIM authorities should drop their ego,file lawsuit against Prometric for its unpreparedness ,empathize with the students and take a decision so that the admits are based on fairplay. Lets hope for the best and let CAT come with a fresh look in Jan or Feb2010.
I have already appeared fro CAT 0n 2nd dec and what I feel that CBT is a very good option than the Paper Based test. Might be some people faced some problems in first 2 days but now test is going on very well and what I thought do not need to retest and one more thing 3 of my friends paper was reschedule but before rescheduling their test Prometric ask for their choice of center and date and this is in Delhi where most of student are giving test.
How come some are going for the option can't say?:P
Guess 70% of the test takers have not done well in the CAT and therefore, 70% wants the CAT to done once again.
I HAVE ALREADY APPEARED IN CAT 2009 AND MY EXPERIENCE WAS QUITE GOOD .FOR THE SAKE OF ALMIGHTY CAT SHOULD NOT BE CONDUCTED TO THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY APPEARED IN THE EXAM SUCCESFULLY.
WE HAVE SEVERAL EXAMS IN THE FORTHCOMINGS WEEKS TO APPEAR
Many Candidates burn midnight oil and seriously prepare for CAT to land up in IIMs or in top 15 Colleges. But what happens to them is that they are not able to appear on scheduled dates, rather their appointment is randomly rescheduled irrespective of their inconvenience to travel to a random center at some time on any date, then on the rescheduled time they are asked to stand outside for [b]ONLY 5.5 hours[/b]. Then some are sent back again while a handful get to give the paper. Then when the already frustrated candidate enters the test lab to his/her surprise the system keeps on logging out and the candidate [b]has to forward 40 questions to reach to DI/Quant section which was being attempted[/b], not to mention the time loss, panic and instability it adds. To top it all the SO-CALLED PROFESSIONAL INVIGILATORS create a ruckus inside the Lab some discussing their personal issues , some fighting with their girlfriends/wife over the mobile,some actually calling [b]Prometric[/b] and discussing why there were delays and other issues, while some leave their mobiles with [b]wonderful bollywood ring [/b][b]tones[/b] to exasperate the already so frustrated and apprehensive candidate. Some candiates were into discussions in test lab, while others toiled with test, Only God knows whether they had completed the test or not as they still were on their respective systems and the invigilators SLEPT right!! Yes I agree this is not the case for all the test centers. BUT IT WAS FOR ME and many other very sincere Candidates who are left on the mercy of this UNFAIR and I'll say WHIMSICAL CONDUCT from the IIMs.
CAT this year is a BIASED DICE GAME, and Sadly many deserving candidates will lose in this gamble.
I would sincerely request the IIMs to conduct another paper pencil CAT this year to give all the candidates a fair trial.
hi guys ,another frustrating nd xhausted day of cat xam but 'phew' we were enabled to sit for the xam ,mind u on the second day.i must say the days were double 'd' days.the devils sitting across the servers(prometric) and shhh iims too were not satiated with what they made us to suffer on the first day ,a new day and a new suspense whether we'll be able to sit for the xams,nd the next was the server crisis in the lab which was damn pestering.To sum up cat belled everyone rather i should say screwed everyone.
CAT, being the most prestigious paper, is losing its credibility with each passing day. An exam where a single second matters, students are getting an advantage of ONE FULL HOUR.. My Goodness... this is something really unacceptable... atleast to me..it might not have mattered for the ones who hv not raised their voice still.. wake up guys...!! we all have prepared so hard to see this.. ?? No.. Never... I jz hope sumone out there will listen to our pleas.. :-(
MAN,IT CANT BE OVER SO SOON. I MEAN THE NIGHTMARE IN WHICH I WAS HELD UP IN A COMP LAB WITHOUT EVEN PERMISSION TO PEE.I WAS TOLD TO REACH 2 HOURS B FORE BUT TO MY SHOCK I REVEALED THE MORNING BATCH WAS STILL STRUGGLING TO FINISH THE TEST EVEN AT 3 pm.WE WERE THEN TOLD TO ENTER AND WE WENT THROUGH ALL BULL SHIT SECURITY CHECKS FOR ONE HOUR.BY 4:30 PM WE STARTED IT, AND BELIEVE ME OR NOT THE KIND HEARTED VIRUS AGAIN STRUCK.TO MY SHOCK I EVEN FOUND MY INSTRUCTORS SAYING NOT TO TOUCH THE COMP AND NOT TO OPEN THE TUTORIALS AS WE MAY GIVE WRONG COMMANDS.FINALLY AT 6 O CLOCK COLD EVENING WE WERE LEFT COLD AND TOLD TO GO HOME.THE NIGHTMARE DIDNT END THERE, WE WERE TOLD THAT WE WILL RECEIVE SMS WHITHIN HOURS FOR THE NEXT SCHEDULE.THIS HAS WHAT HAPPENED TO THE 'MEOW CAT', IT HAS GOT DYSENTERY THIS YEAR.ANYWAYS AUTHORITIES SHOULD REALISE THE PAIN WHICH GOES INTO PRAPRING FOR THE D-DAY, AT LEAST THINK ABOUT THE OUTSTATION CANDIDATES.EVERYBODY IS NOT RICH ENOUGH TO VISIT CENTER FOR 7 DAYS AFTER SPENDING 1400 BUCKS.FINALY
