Should Christian Art Students Study the Nude Figure?

I think that it is up to the individual program as to whether the nude human form should be studied. Christian students should inquire in to the matter before applying to the program. No one forces a person into any higher education programs.

Very interesting:) I am a Christian and currently taking a life drawing class at my local community college. The class is called Intermediate Drawing. I feel disturbed by it for some reason and do not know why. I think it might be because the model goes to the school and is not professional. I don't know but I feel some sort of conviction about it.

In most secular college arts settings it is required to do this to even get a grade in the lower levels of first and second year studies. Anatomy is a basic to the process of doing art, just like perspective. And it's for the most part just like doctors doing their work, clinical and not alluring on any level. Prudishness is not holiness. Jesus said it is not what enters into a man (the eyes gate included) that defiles him but what comes out. We bring to the table any lack in the mastery of our own desires or lusts. Nude models are only helping in building a well rounded artist in all that is required to get there. This has been going on since ancient times(the modeling), I hope by this late date in time we have gotten past the stigma of all this. We should show the world how we are ourselves totally unaffected by it, not making a issue out of it. To no longer as in the past do the usual hyper moralistic, look down your nose, with a puritanical, religious spirit that we are already to well known for... and should not be. In art circles it doesn't set a standard with them, it makes us a laughing stock.

Christians drawing from nude models. Did not God create man and woman and pronounced them "good"? Might I add, throughout the scriptures from that moment of transgression, God pronounced the heart of man as "wicked", "evil". It's not the nude body, but the heart that makes this whole experience of being a Christian and drawing from nude bodies an oxymoron. Some would say that medical professionals are "exposed" to nudity all the time. Perhaps that is so, but they are trying to "fix" or "maintain" a body that has none the less fallen and is dying. Yes, folks, dying. The body, though good, was also corrupted by sin. The flesh "lusts" to fulfill the hearts wicked, selfish desires. You might think of yourselves as altruistic. I don't for one minute believe that. I believe a body can be clothed (even if the genitals are clothed), and all the uniqueness of the body can viewed and drawn. If you are a Christian, tell me when you will be incorporating naked pictures into your work? Also, Leonardo Di Vince has been so idolized that should I tell you history paints a rather disturbing picture of his sexual perversions, particular involving his male nude models, you might retaliate. I cannot believe the Lord condones this. I believe one must compromise the truth to embrace this lie.
