Other than that, love this add-on to pieces. Thank you so much for putting it together.

I would say that you shouldn't change it -- unless you change all the other "flags". Your product is about language - not nations. Many people get offended looking at symbols of Japan -- and could take offense to the Japanese flag - and of course there are two nations that speak Korea currently... the debate could go on...

The languages in question are Han languages (漢語). The traditional color that represents the Han people is 玄, which is black with some red. I suggest you add the option of red 中 on a black field.

Muer, you said that UK/US flags are generally accepted as symbols for English as well as other nations. However, they don't have the same issues as China. For example, if you want to learn Korean, which flag would it be? the South or the North Korean's flag? As the case for Chinese, how about Taiwan's flag?
I think an alternative flag is fine, so each one chooses according to his/her own preference. The idea is to have options, not to impose one flag or another.

I strongly oppose the change. UK/US flags are generally accepted as symbols for English although their fraction of the English-speaking population is much lower. Similarly, the German flag is used for German (in spite of Austria, Switzerland etc.), the French flag for French, the Russian flag for Russian ...
Choosing the Chinese flag is just natural, not choosing it would be political.

As was said some time ago, "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet". This icon business is much ado about nothing. And as far as keeping politics out of it, that is about as likely as separating the police from their donuts.

Black zhong on red provides best readability. 1) The zhong character often stands for Chinese. 2) Contrast is good.

Glad to see an alternative "flag". Best to keep politics out of the issue.
What Seth said. Keep politics out of this.
