Fat in the midriff area has a bad effect on the underlying organs. Your hips and thighs do not effect your internal organs to the same degree.

I read it somewhere - that fat around the belly is bad for the brain but fat around hips or legs is not as bad. With aging, fat around the belly is almost inevitable for the majority of women because skin sags and increases the size of a belly.
