Stage directions. What to do?
Always read them. It's a staged reading. People expect to hear them read to help them understand.
Never read them. The closer it is to a fully-staged production, the easier it is for audiences to follow.
Err on the side of not reading them, but stick in the ones at the top and bottom of each scene so at least you know where you are. You know, Shakespeare-style.
It's a case-by-case kinda thing.
I'm still trying to figure out how Claire didn't know she was full-on slapping that actor.
