Shelli, I believe you know how I feel about this and I apologize for not being at the meeting last night. I hope this is put to a vote and I am pleased as punch that they actually gave you the time of day concerning this matter. For years residents have been forced to drive miles and miles just to pick up a six pack or a bottle of wine and any other liquor they might want..this is so redicules in this day and time,.. and to those who suggest it will raise DWI's..DO YOUR RESEARCH...alcohol has been here in Saline County for years, only in private clubs and the VFW club..why not allow the rest of us to walk into a store and purchase a six pack of beer. The bigger WET counties are not going to miss the revenue! A pat on the back Shelli!

shelli, I think it's great what you are trying to do with saline becoming wet and trying to get a handle on the animal control. My best friends daughters got attacked last summer by 3 dogs and they did a number on her and they did nothing to the dogs. It was very sad she had horrible pain and could not lay or sit for all the bites and huge bruises. People need to grow up and know that if kids want alcohol they will drive to other counties to get it so its crazy to keep saline a dry county because of that. and for the church people, if you dont want to buy alcohol then dont but dotn punish the ones that do.

Shelli, I just read the comment from Ms Riggiin concerning children being exposed to alcohol. They are exposed to alcohol on a regular and daily basis by just turning on the tv, and it is not my or your responsibility to manage someone elses child, that is up to the parent. What do these folks do when they travel out of town on vacation? Do they cover their childs eyes when they go out to dinner and someone at another table is drinking? But then again, my latest rant has been on children under the age of 16 being allowed into Okalawn Park. THAT MS. RIGGIN is not suitable for children, you have smoking and drinking and gambling and some say the children enjoy this?? No, lets get our prioroties straight here in Saline County and Benton, those in favor should be allowed, those who are not have the right to eat elsewhere or not drink in establishments that serve. If they don't want to walk into a grocery store that sels alcohol (beer/wine) then they can shop elsewhere.

Go to any of the liquor stores at the county line and sit. Then count the number of people you know coming in to buy liquor. It makes sense for the county to be wet and take advantage of the money that can be generated from liquor sales.

I think any business that has added beer,wine and liquor to the menu have seen an increse in revanue. This tells me that the people of Saline county can stay home and spend those hard earned dollars here on dining and drinking out instead of driving to other areas. We can have that added income right here where we live. The tax money alone can afford many items. There are many things that spring to mind. If you want to protect you children from the evils of alachol then beware of some of the sermons where god turned the water into wine, and where he said here drink of this wine it is my blood. I think if you raise your kids right there can be a liquor store next door and they know it is not right to drink. We as a community must educate our children that some times it is not the best thing in the world that makes the most money for the community.

im suprised that we have come to the 2000's arguing about buying beer and such in saline county. It also amazes me that these against alcohol folks would posess the knoledge to operate a computer. Its time for a change and for once have the revenue come to saline county instead of pulaski or garland county. How about a incentive to lower the county tax rate if we can sell been in the county?

Since the stats are saying only 12% are totally for Saline County remaining dry, that probably means only the progressive people get online and blog and vote. All the others will come out on voting day and vote against the referendum. But first we need the petitions signed. How many valid voter names do we have to have on petitions? Is anyone circulating petitions yet?

Yes, alcohol has been in this county for as long as I can remember. But that doesn't make it right. I am one of those people who will not patronize a business if they sell alcohol. If that means I have to travel farther and give my hard earned money to some other county, I have no problem with that.

Am I correct in believing that the wet/dry vote was taken in 1943? If so, I cannot believe that there are a dozen people here who actually voted the county dry. That certainly puts the ax to the common cry of "we voted it dry for a reason!" A dry county is such an economic stifle as to be incomprehendable. Face facts. No decent restaurant can afford to open in a dry county, with or without the private club dodge. Just finding and retaining capable servers is impossible, witness the present situation. We've been hearing from the elected uh....leaders...that the county and cities need more revenue. The answer is pretty simple. Put Rafferty's and Red Gate out of business. With Saline County wet, they last about 2 1/2 weeks. The amount of Saline Couty money that goes into Pulaski Couny as sales tax is staggering. For those who are opposed to alcohol and sharing in the money that it generates----well, you are already doing so with State money. It's just buried into general revenue. It might be time for Saline Couty to wake up and catch up to the 20th century. And yes, I know we're in the 21st century.

I remember traveling to Jonesboro a few years ago on business. I arrived late in the day and stopped for gas. At the service station I asked if there was a Red Lobster nearby. The man I asked went into a rant and turned the air blue talking about how no decent restaurant would come to town because of the no alcohol ordinance. However, he directed me to two private clubs where I could sit and drink. I wasn't looking for a place to drink; I was looking for a Red Lobster. Had there been one in town I probably would have had a glass of wine with my meal. I'm also one of those strange people who tips 20% on the total cost of food and drink. In other words, a $5 glass of wine puts an extra buck in the server's pocket.

For those truly interested in circulating a petition and getting the county wet, don't wait for someone else to do the work. We're looking for an attorney to do the petition and ordinance drafting. It has to be worded correctly and get enough signatures by June 1st. Signature must be verified as Saline County voters. The signatures don't count if the person has recently registered and isn't verified yet (received confirmation from the county). Also, if one signature is bad on a page of many, the whole page is thrown out. Therefore, in addition to the attorney expense (barring pro-bono), we should purchase the register of Saline County voters. I think it's $200+. I have no problem with saline county being wet, the ones that dont want it i guarantee if you followed some of them around they go to little rock to get it. Just like the lottery or gambling you drive to tunica shrevport or any other surronding casinos in the parking lot the license plates are mostly arkansas.............. Geez wake up its the future not 1950, you have to grow thats what makes the world go round besidesi live in benton its 11 miles to a liquor store whats 11 miles back this way gonna hurt, and another thing they talk about making it easier for teens to get it my god they do what every other kid does drive 11 miles and have a older friend buy it..........hell wake up people, oh did i tell i all for itooooooo
