Go Ryan Crane!!!! We are so proud of you!!!
Posted by Diane on February 9th 2010, 1:05am

Hey "FAN" who the hell are YOU!!! Look at the high school stats for Arizona!!! People like you need to get a life, hopefully you have your "ONE" vote in for who ever you know!! Leave this site for the proud parents who clearly care for their kids that are listed!!! My son has already been offered to three colleges... let me guess, your working at McDonalds!!!! For all the parents that are proud of their kids that are listed... GOOD FOR YOU!!!!

dykhuizen can play anywhere. What a comeback year for this kid. He can shoot the 3, penetrate to the hoop and pulls down the rebounds. Whatever college program gets him is going to be fortunate indeed.
Posted by paul on February 9th 2010, 2:21am

Dykhuizen was northwest region player of the year in his junior year and has proven himself once again as a dominant leader in this conference and beyond. He has continued to develop his skills and mature as an athlete. He will do well at the next level.
Posted by Herb on February 9th 2010, 3:10am

Alex keep giving it everything you got. You have fought through much adversity this year and you deserve everything that comes your way. You have done us all proud!
Posted by william on February 9th 2010, 3:20am

Fan, You truly are ignorant for that statement. Who is Ryan Crane? Ryan Crane is hands down the most fun kid to watch in Arizona. Not only is he good at posting up, he also can shoot from the perimeter like a mad man. I got the privilege to go watch this kid play at one of their tourneys. He dropped 8 3ptr's, 7 of them being in the first half, and being pulled for most of the second due to the blow out. With the two seniors including Ryan Crane and Alex Dykhuizen on boulder Creek; I honestly don't know who can stop them from winning state for 5AII. So "fan", I now recommend you go to a Boulder Creek high school game and watch this kid play before you speak again. But I must warn you, Might want to get there early if you want a seat, they tend to "Fill up the house." -Bob

Alls I can say is, Hayden Johnson (SCA) thrashed (ok, not thrashed, but defeated) Boulder Creek with 25 points and 13 rebounds.
Posted by John Doe on February 9th 2010, 4:50am

Alex, you know you will always have my vote. You have had a great high school career and your dad and I have had a blast watching you play. Your work ethic to continue to improve your skill, especially during the off season has been impressive but more importantly... you are an amazing person and I know that God has very special plans for you. Be blessed in all you do. Mom

SCA played a great game against boulder creek at the tournament. Hayden is a tough player and I'm glad to hear that he is improving and playing ball again.

This poll is legit. It was started on the ArizonaVarsity.com website this morning and will run for two weeks. Many of the top sportwriters in the state will follow the results. One top sportswriter already posted it on several media sites. It's honorary only but may help when it comes to other media related awards. The 75+ player master list is legit. All these kids can really play. I'm considering re-naming the People's Choice POY Award to The Taylor Wisdom POY. With this much support she must have been an incredible kid and Alex has had an amazing comeback season. We encourage posting stats and other context on the players you feel are deserving. If you want to get the word out see the methods available to the right of this page. Good luck!! - Sir Donald

hey i agree with the "fan" who the heck are these kids from boulder creek and flowing wells, if they were actually good we would've heard of them. i looked up there stats and they're pathetic, only points, no rebounding, assists or anything else. i know more than 15 people on this list that put up those numbers plus more every night and that get double doubles evey night.
Posted by KDUB on February 9th 2010, 7:28pm

I posted this on ArizonaVarsity.com this morning to answer those who think that a All AZ People's Choice Poll is meaningless. I beg to differ.... Holy Poley look at Devirous Johnson's numbers! Look at Baruti's, and he was severely handicapped with a late start. Now he's pushing The Iron Lung (Hayden Johnson) for a spot on the All AZ team!! This is a beautiful thing and here's why. IT GETS PEOPLE INVOLVED IN HONORING GREAT HS BASKETBALL PLAYERS. Coaches and media are way too anal and change resistant sometimes. They think their opinions are better than everyone elses and the old ways are best. Sometimes they are, but sometimes they aren't. Sometimes it comes down to politics as usual. Can any single one of you tell me with certainty that Ryan and Alex are not deserving of being All Arizona? I haven't even seen them play and I can tell you the answer is NO you can't. They're the two best players on a great team. We so-called "pundits" have said many times that winning matters. Add in the high character factor and a cinderella season and nobody can convince me they aren't deserving of being on a team with 15 players. Rodney Clark? He may be the best shooter in the state for all we know. Devirous Johnson may be the best pound for pound big man this state has seen in years. Again, these polls end up being subjective whether we like it or not and much of it is perception. The bottom line is YES, it was done for fun, but more importantly I wanted to open the platform for an All Arizona team just like the NBA does the All Star game. Why? IT GETS PEOPLE INVOLVED IN HONORING GREAT PLAYERS!! That is a very good thing.
Posted by Sir Donald on February 9th 2010, 7:30pm

All you people need to look at the "real" stats. To say the guys from Boulder Creek are like Byrd, and Kobe... Please get real and look at the facts of the stats. The top rated 50 on Max Preps are for real and what the colleges look at... Sorry Boluder Creek, not even in the top 50! Do the research, Boulder Creek is not even playing top rated H.S. teams! It's great to be proud, nothing wrong with that but do not even compare your guys to great players. Top 25 guys are over powering Boulder Creek stats. Rodney Clark is at 24, he is 6'2" and can fly when dunking... "oh yeah, he is a white kid that can fly!!!" Good for you parents that cheer on the Boulder Creek kids, they sound like great players, but not Byrd, or Kobe when comparing stats!!! Everyone needs to have some fun and enjoy the polls... bottom line these polls are not decided by how many times I can click on the vote for one kid!!!! Good LUCK to ALL the players that are mentioned!!!
Posted by FACTS on February 9th 2010, 7:40pm

Whoa. Some of these comments are RUDE and uncalled for. You are talking about someone's kid!!!! We are not talking about grown adults who are getting paid big bucks & have asked to be put in the spotlight in Hollywood, the NBA or in politics. You are talking about a MINOR who plays h.s. basketball, and works hard for his team. Forgive the fans of Boulder Creek for being TRUE fans, who enjoy watching their best players play hard, & for wanting to root them on. As for what the "colleges" say, who cares what the team is ranked??? I thought this poll was about individual players? I know for a fact that multiple colleges are looking at these 2 fine Boulder Creek players and that they will be recruited. That's how a college talks...money and scholarships. All of you that don't have the decency to say something nice ABOUT A CHILD, shouldn't say anything at all.

To share the love I think the right thing to do is to break down the Peoples Choice POYs by Conference so that there will be a POY or Co-POY for the top vote getters ("Co-POY" if they are close) in each conference/division 5A1, 5A2, 4A1, etc. But I will still take the top 15 players in this poll against any other team in the state hands down. Nobody can argue that from a basketball perspective.

Sir Donald - Thank you for having a poll that is based on more than just stats on a piece of paper but on who we are the biggest fan of. There's no doubt that every young man on the list deserves to be commended for their hard work, drive to succeed and their ability to play basketball. All of them have something to offer the world and I wish them all the best in the future. That being said, I feel the need to tell you why I voted for Alex Dykhuizen. His Jr. year (2008-09) was a great year. My daughter, Taylor Wisdom, was his #1 fan & on the varsity dance team at BCHS. She danced countless hours on end cheering for him and the jags team (even though Alex always told her dancing was not a sport - lol). Today Taylor has the best seat in the house as she watches Alex play from heaven. She's still his #1 fan and always will be. Alex & Taylor, best friends, were in a horrible ATV accident at the end of the 2008-09 school year that took her life. Alex was injured himself quite badly, both physically & emotionally. There was another boy injured also. Alex was not able to play ball all summer and went back on the court just 1 week before the 1st BCHS game. Today Alex has Taylor’s name on each of his game shoes and carries her in his heart every game he plays. I believe that his perseverance and commitment, not only to his team but also to himself, are second to none. That is part of the reason I am voting for this young man. He is not just a great basketball player. He has the heart, spirit and sincerity of an All-star, on and off the court. I know that everybody has a story and everyone has the right to tell their story & to decide to vote if they choose to. I also know Ryan Crane, and although I am not a personal friend of his, I do know that he too has conquered his share of obstacles but to watch him on the court you would never know it. As a mother I can tell you that it is my honor that both of these fine young men were in my daughter’s life. I challenge all of you to vote if your heart leads you to support someone on this list. Ryan & Alex may be in the lead but all that means is in our community of friends and families we have chose to cast our votes. Please quit bashing the players on this list because NONE of them deserve it. They were all given a gift of some sort in the game of basketball so spend your energy gathering votes instead of shooting daggers at innocent children, as Karen said, because I’m here to tell you that you never know when tomorrow may be to late to tell them they are All-stars in your eyes. God bless all of you. ~ momma (that's what Alex calls me)
Posted by tay's momma on February 10th 2010, 4:04am

Well I'll be dipped in ink. I was just doing my usual search for the best shooter in the state on Maxpreps.com and, lo and behold, who do you think the top 3 kids are using my usual criteria of a high 3 PFG made per game and high 3 PFG %. 1. Ehlinger - 4.0 made per game and 47% 2. Crane - 3.5 made per game and 46% 3. Hawkins 4.0 made per game and 45% Assuming the stats are accurate, I know, it seems Governor Crane may be the best long distance bomber in all of 4A and 5A. The other two infamous bombers play small ball and B-EAZY had a game listed where he made 7 out of 1 3PFGs. That helped the percentage quite a bit for him.
Posted by sir donald on February 10th 2010, 6:16am

Momma, Thank you for telling your story. I hope you don't mind if I post it on Arizonavarsity.com. I lost my mother at a relatively young age in a terrible auto accident so I can relate in a way. My hair turned gray overnight at 33 when it happened but losing a child at such a young age must be the most difficult thing an adult can ever endure. To get the kind of support she has gotten from your community is a testament to a wonderful young lady and her momma. This team will now be called Taylor's Team in honor of her. Go Boulder Creek! Sir Donald

Oh and check out the new title of this poll up top !! :)
Posted by sir donald on February 10th 2010, 6:44am

This was posted over at arizonavarsity.com. Ms. Wisdom, my heart goes out to you and your family. And, you are right, there is more to a good player than stats. So many of these kids who only care about puttin up shots are probably not going to succeed on or off the court as well as the all around players who know that there is no I in TEAM. JW is a perfect example of this- he is an all around TEAM player and an all around successful young man off the court as well. As long as the "I" players are continuously touted for getting the most points and not having to worry about doing anything else on or off the court they will never learn the TEAM concept on or off the court. I have seen some of these high scoring boys and they rarely play D or get assists, or run a play through- just get me the ball so I can shoot. I watched a kid who graduated last year and he had a ton of points throughout HS- poor shooting %, no D , and guess what happened to him? So, although I've never seen Alex D. play, he's got my vote (so does JW :)) !
Posted by sir donald on February 10th 2010, 2:30pm

In looking at the votes for POY by conference I doubt anyone can beat Governor Crane and Alex Dykhuizen. We could almost crown them the 5A2 Co-POYs now. But the rest of the conference POYs are wide open. Here's another comment from BBEYE over at AV who wrote the last one here that I just posted as well. Thanks Sir, I figured she wasn't on this, but hoped someone would link it to her and also for others to get a clue about the "big picture" and what we as parents and role models are teaching our kids about life. Everyone always says that being on a sports team is supposed to teach our kids life lessons, but then those important lessons are thrown out the door with encouraging the wrong ideals for attention. I think it's great doing the "Taylor's Team". Now let's hope some day these young athletes (and some adults) will actually "get it".

Oh my God.... is this poll strictly about Boulder Creek??? And who the heck is Sir Donald, or are you trying to be like Sir Charles Barkley since everyone seems to compare eachother as the "great ones"!!! Boulder Creek needs to play some "known" teams and see how good they really are, they would be "spanked" BIG TIME!!! There are so many players on the poll that are the real thing and it is clear the parents are the ones that are re-voting many times over and over... this poll is a joke!!

3934 votes. Dykhuizen just jumped over Governor Crane. We'll have to make him a Senator with a massive crush on the ballot box. Cameron Forte's fans have stepped up and he has cracked the Top 15 Team. I'm surprised the SCA fans have not weighed in for The Iron Lung (Hayden Johnson). The dude played an entire game with a collapsed lung, was in the hospital for 9 days getting it stapled back together, and is back out there for their run for the 2A title. Let's give the kid some love too please. Be sure your players are nominated by your Head Coach to play in the AZ Basketball Coaches Association Senior and Underclassmen All Star Games. They will be held at US Airways Center on May 29. All nominations must be e-mailed to Art Hall, the Director, by the head coach with all the proper info very soon! He's at arthall3@cox.net
