My first reaction was kill the child but only because it was a hypothetical situation (does someone get rid of the corpse?), I guess in reality I would kill the dog but who's killing themselves?

I choosed to kill the child... That is what the child gets for sneaking into my house, into my room, and want me to choose between killing him, my pet, or me... Just saying, who the heck is dumb enough to let a child that breaks into others house and order them to kill somebody, live? That child would still break into more houses and get more cats and dogs killed, so, I must say that just braindead morons would let the child live... You know, exept if your dog is an agressive dogs that runs out on the streats and kill everyone in sight every night, something that I guess dont happen a lot... All the cats and dogs owners in the world, that wanted to kill their pets, I just wants to tell this to: Shame on you!!!

I love my dog, so killing it is not an option. But seriously, why place more importance on the life of a human being, when it is that species that ends up destroying the world?

no soportaria matar a mi perra, tampoco al bebe, no volveria a tener la conciencia tranquila, convirtiendo mi vida en un infierno mental. asi q me mataria yo.
I'd have to go with the kid since I dislike humans and fear that we, as a species, are doing nothing but destroying the planet that the creatures that live on.

I'm thunderstruck and distressed that one of every three people place a higher value for the life of an animal and place a lower value for the life of a human being. The willingness of these people to kill a human being reveals an extreme antisocial attitude, reveals extreme antisocial behavior and reveals a total lack of conscience. This is the personality disorder of the sociopath. Sick ! !
The lesson? When meeting a person who has to have their pet with them all the time or who can't conceive of being apart from their pet or who showers all of their attention and focus onto their pet; then, it is time to walk away from that animal-loving person. That person will not be changed.
It would be really really hard, but I would have to kill my dog. I just couldn't bring myself to kill another human or myself to save him. I do agree with Collette in that I would go to great lengths to save my dogs life if we might both survive.

I love my dog - we've been best buds for over 15 years - but at the end of the day, she is just a dog. It would break my heart but I would still choose the child or myself first. I would like to think that if my little niece or nephew were the unknown child, the button-pusher would choose to save them instead of their pet.
Since I'm a Buddhist I would honestly stick with my beliefs and put myself before any other living thing. But if beliefs were put aside, if I'm totally honest, I'd probably choose my dog over a baby, my family totally treats our dogs like they are our own children! It cant be helped, dogs have similar mindsets to humans, we naturally get along well, even better then we do with other people! I wonder if it would be different if dogs could communicate whatever they are thinking though!

This goes to show that most pet owners are psychopaths. IMO anyone who owns a pet has serious issues with people. Basically a mixture of hubris (deciding the fate of the pet / being god) and control freak / dominance urges. The complexity of human/human interaction is too much for them so they prefer to simply own a creature which must love them.

I would definitely kill the child.

I wouldn't like it, and it would break my heart because I DO love my dog more than almost anyone, but at the end of the day I am not going to kill a child. and I am not going to kill myself to spare my dog's life -- not in a rational situation like this (I would risk my life for my dog's, such as swimming across fast moving water to save her. That is not the same as killing myself, since we might both make it out okay).
that anyone would choose a human child over a dog is really sad. but, hey, we do that all the time. we choose what we know (our family, our neighbourhood, our wants) over that which we don't (violence and starvation in other countries) all the time.
i'm owner who raising small size dog. When I read the article informating situation, i have already been sure i would pull 2nd button because i really lover my dog than anything.

Why would ANYONE choose to kill the baby? Your dogs (cats) life is not worth more than a persons.
