I choosed to kill the child... That is what the child gets for sneaking into my house, into my room, and want me to choose between killing him, my pet, or me... Just saying, who the heck is dumb enough to let a child that breaks into others house and order them to kill somebody, live? That child would still break into more houses and get more cats and dogs killed, so, I must say that just braindead morons would let the child live... You know, exept if your dog is an agressive dogs that runs out on the streats and kill everyone in sight every night, something that I guess dont happen a lot... All the cats and dogs owners in the world, that wanted to kill their pets, I just wants to tell this to: Shame on you!!!

This is depressing and I wish I hadn't read this today. One third of respondents say that they would murder a toddler to save a cat! Hopefully this is just a response to the hypothetical situation, and in reality only a few true psychopaths would be able to kill a child. It's scary to think that some of those who were happy to try to justify this intent may perhaps work in the armed forces, as teachers or in the medical profession. I think that if this is genuinely your position then you really need to seek help!

I choose to kill the child.

@ TDave I'm thunderstruck and distressed that you would place a higher value for the life of a strange child and place a lower value for the life of your beloved cat simply because the child is human and somehow humans are more entitled to life than animals.

    Thinking about it purely logically:

Killing your cat, with whom you spent many happy times, would more than likely cause you serious mental anguish that you will have to deal with the rest of your life.
Killing the child has no consequences. Since the experiment states that no one would ever know what has happened, it stands to reason that it has no relatives, no life and no attachment to anyone or anything. It's absence in the world won't make a difference to anyone. Harsh sounding, but in this unusual scenario, you'd probably be doing it a favour.
Killing yourself will, at the very least, result in the death of your cat since there is no one to look after it. If you have a family and/or friends, this will also affect them.

I have 4 cats and a dog. I did not hasitate a moment to kill 5 children. I wonder, how anybody could do something else. If you kill you your own dog or cat, I doubt, that you love your animal. But if you love your dog or cat, why would kill, what you love?
If we are for anything here on earth- it is to love- not to follow rules.

but beside: if this situation ever comes, I would try to kill the guy, who traps me into that situation. I will kill him first .... to save the child, or last, why he forced me to kill the child.
Better you and your friend don“t try this stupied idea in reality.

I'd have to go with the kid since I dislike humans and fear that we, as a species, are doing nothing but destroying the planet that the creatures that live on.

I'm thunderstruck and distressed that one of every three people place a higher value for the life of an animal and place a lower value for the life of a human being. The willingness of these people to kill a human being reveals an extreme antisocial attitude, reveals extreme antisocial behavior and reveals a total lack of conscience. This is the personality disorder of the sociopath. Sick ! !
The lesson? When meeting a person who has to have their pet with them all the time or who can't conceive of being apart from their pet or who showers all of their attention and focus onto their pet; then, it is time to walk away from that animal-loving person. That person will not be changed.

It seems to me that the cat would live the shortest of the three... (though not in cat years) . So you safe more lifetime by killing the cat then you would killing yourself or the child.... By killing yourself or the child you rob more live of a living creature..

Heck, even if it was a random cat rather than my own it'd still be a coin flip at best...

  • liberccxx - 2 years ago

Why wouldn't you kill the child? Oh, ok, I get it, rather than save the life of an animal that has given you years of affection and enjoyment you choose to save the life of a child who might grow up to be the next local drunk. Smart move. The child certainly won't be the first one to find the cure for cancer. He will probably be too busy, randomly appearing in strange rooms pleading with people not to kill him, to even consider doing serious research.

  • savitrii - 2 years ago

Some people would actually choose to kill the child? That's disgusting.

  • AinEstonia - 2 years ago

Lol, when comparing the poll results of dog owners to cat owners, cat owners would kill their cat more than dog owners would kill their dog. Still weird to see that a higher percentage of people would kill the child than they would themselves or the pet.
