Go with the Madone. For and extra $500, you get to say, "I've got a Madone". Plus, you'll look so much sexier leaning up against it if you need to resort to pulling a few tricks to make the monthly rent payment ;-)
I recently bought a 2.3 and although I can't vouch for it's ride (too cold here yet), I'm very happy with my purchase. I could talk about the differences in components and frame material all day long, but it comes down to this. Would you rather have a top end aluminum frame or a bottom of the barrel carbon frame?
Personally I'll take the few extra ounces and the top end aluminum.

P.S. I like the look of the 2.3 better anyway :)
