This is a great country with quite a few flaws "tax" within the government. I do believe in this country and as result believe, if you earn income pay the appropriate tax but it has to be fair.
The underground economy is virtually being created... and more so than not... created by small businesses and rightfully so.... to now charge a client 12% ...especially on labour impacts on the amount of work the business owner willl not acquire. Small business owners will lose out. As the mandatory registration for GST today, is gross income of $30,000 and has been for eons consider increasing the base to $150,000 (business owners do not charge out $10-$15 an hour like they did in the late seventies-government needs a reality check) . Though the small business owner will be impacted by the tax he has to pay on expenses at least he would be able to earn a better income(without being a registrant) and can afford to pay the HST on any taxable item!
As for me I have way to much integrity, I will report all income I receive and I am almot at that $30,000 mark...I am one of the fortunate ones who has the ability to not earn any more income....so my solution...do not take on any more tax clients and (my current clients will win on this one) not increase my fee in the future, just to stay under the $30,000 but remember i am the fortunate one who can afford to make this decision...very many are not!
and by the way...I am tired of hearing it it is going to impact the low income earners (though very justified in some cases) the low income earners are not the back bone of the country. Whatever they earn goes to rent, food and very basic necessities (very little tax paid on these) and with the tax credit they receive almost ($160.00 every quarter) is more than enough to reimburse any tax they had to pay on taxable items. Look to your middle income earners....the hardest hit...the backbone of the country...of my client base they are the hardest hit in every way.
