This is the place my wife grew up. I had the pleasure of visiting Tarapoto in July of 2014. I met her family and asked her father for his blessing to marry her. Imagine waking up to the smell of FRESH air, a combination of natural fruit and palm fills your sinus cavity... Fantastic. Stay at a Hotel and with your breakfast have fresh squeezed papaya juice room temperature. So thick and natural... The people are so laid back and tranquil, and the scenery is amazingly beautiful. Visit the Cataratas de Ahuashiyacu... So beautiful... I will be going back next year, and one day may even move there for permanent residence, or perhaps Lamas, or one of the neighboring villages...

    Hi Jon,

I've only just seen this comment – it's really interesting. I don't think you have ever posted a comment on my TarapotoLife blog before. I'd like to post your above comment on the blog poll page but I feel I should ask you first. I've no idea if you will ever see this, but if you do can you send be an email (from the TarapotoLife contact page) or post your comment at TarapotoLife. It's a great comment, would be nice of more people could see it.

    Thanks.

I am married to a Tarapotina that I met in California. I work for a technology company in Silicon Valley, about 40 miles South of San Francisco. My dream after spending my 3 month sabbatical in Tarapoto in December 2008 is to eventually move and live there. I was born and raised in Sierra Leone, West Africa, I feel quite at home in Tarapoto, the people stare but in a friendly way, they call me Negrito (Very endearing), and my friends and in-laws call me Joncito, I have since learned to add ITA to a female’s first name, and ITO to a male. I visit every year, and hope to be there in July for 3 weeks.
