When it comes to job creation and economic growth, Elko really needs to think hard outside the traditional box of the mining, ranching, and gaming industries. Energy needs to be put into recruiting professionals to the area in more diverse fields that will utilize existing strengths and facilities within the community and hire individuals already residing here as well as attract outside job seekers.
How about establishing a Geriatric Medical Research Center, maybe related to the UN Schools of Medicine somehow? A symbiotic relationship could flourish between this and GBC's nursing and science programs, the Regional Hospital (and all the medically related satellite businesses in the community). Ultimately, such a center for excellence with networked support facilities would be a magnet for retirees to the region, thus spawning the need for more Senior Care facilities (Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, Dementia Care facilities, . . .)
