    Big Blue 2 UW 0

How does it feel to have 2 top players say thanks but no thanks UW????

At least the top 2 for next years are locks...for UK that is!!

  • High School Referee - 14 years ago

    NO!!!
I hope he goes to Kentucky . He's a spoiled brat.

  • Tony - 14 years ago

What do you think now Mary??? Guess we know that all that BS you were talking about is just that. The kid did what was right and came to the best program in college. UW just needs to learn it's place and that will never be among the elite of college basketball. at least all of the 3779 of you that wanted to drive to portland to see jones...you can now come to lexington and see what you could have had.

  • matt - 14 years ago

Rondo is a proven leader, don't just look at his time in Boston, look at his performance with the U21 team the summer after his freshman season. That is why he is the better player, he can shine among stars...but with Roy he is a one trick pony, will never be as good of a leader nor player as Rondo is. So to answer your question if Roy was in cleveland NO WE WOULDN'T BE HAVING THIS CONSERVATION. He would be even more over shadowed than he is now.

  • afroedee - 14 years ago

Rondo has 4 other very good players on his team helping him out. Roy isn't so lucky. He's got to carry it on his own. If Roy was on Cleveland, we wouldn't be having this discussion right now. Dig?

  • matt - 14 years ago

Prince shouldn't even be in this discussion now, Roy or Rondo. It's Rondo all the way, what he has done in Boston, no one can argue with, he is a leader and that's around some good players...he makes all those around him even better. Roy is just there in Portland, he has good stats but dosen't help the team in the way that Rondo does. The big question will be in a few years to see how the kids from kentucky do in the nba.

  • MarkfromKansas - 14 years ago

So glad that Kansas got out of this one!! Today in college basketball it's about what can I do for you. Cal wether at Memphis or now at Kentucky has proven that he can build some of the best NBA ready playolers out there. No one can discount that. Now how he goes about it, that can be put into question, but thats not something a player thinks about those 5 kids from Kentucky with the expection of JWall improved their position in the draft for one reason, the exposure that comes with Kentucky. In turn Cousins and Patterson, added some serious coins in their pockets from what Cal brought to Kentucky. Bledsoe and Orton, they owe most of what they will make next year to Cal. He is a proven coach of talent, and wether he does it the right way or wrong way, he gets kids ready for the NBA and gets them paid. Don't hate Kentucky though, if Cal was at Memphis still, this would be happening. Jones wants to go to a big time school, he choose Kentucky over Kansas, but didn't want to be so far from home. so he settled for Washington. Then who knows, maybe he had second thoughts, and decided that it would be best for him to go to a school that could help him get NBA ready better, that being Kentucky. Guys...don't hate Kentucky, they are always going to be one of the best programs in the sport, that was long before Cal came to Lexington, That goes back long before then, what they have done cannot be denied, and as much as I hate them at times, the fact is they are a team to beat.

  • Tony - 14 years ago

Mary, you have lost your mind to think that a college basketball players cares about developing his spirit. As for a reputable program...last time I checked it was UK that was the all time leader in wins in the sport, it was UK who was ranked by ESPN The Best Program In The History Of College Basketball. Put on top of that a fan base that comes 24,000 plus fans a night to supoort their program, Put on top of that 7 national titles, more SEC titles that the rest of the conference put together. The TRUE all around package.....NATIONAL EXPOSURE....(ESPN almost every game) that is it!!!!!! It's funny you know that if given the chance, all you UW fans would die for the chance to have Cal and Company there at your school. Then it would be a different story, don't hate the big schools, just because you cannot be one of them, and don't get worked up over a player who is not even a top 10 player. Oh wait thats the best you can get right? 2 of the top ten are there at UK with 2 of the best for the next year also commited to come to UK. Get over it, and get over Jones!!!! Maybe in 50 years UW will be said in the same page as a school like UK Or Ku Or UNC or Duke Or UCLA You have never been a storied program, and never will, you will never bring in a big time coach, because you are not part of the big picture in college basketball, how many national titles do you have? How many times have you been to the final four? How many conference titles do you have?

  • mary - 14 years ago

The comment that Tony made that my comments (Mary at the top of this page) are only emotions is a myopic perception of what was said. You've missed the whole point! It's an ALL AROUND package deal of pursuing TJ's dreams of continuing to develop himself as a basketball player at a reputable program, to have that strong support of family, close friends, great coach, great teammates, UW fans that are meaningful and lasting that will make ALL the difference in the world to a HUMAN BEING. Now, Tony if you are referring to a robotic basketball player who is materialistic and narcissistic, then a support system means nothing. To achieve that money and fame, a smart basketball player has to develop their game, BUT if you don't have to do it ALONE, why go down that road? It's demanding to do both challenges of basketball and academics--a strong stable support system will make a world of a difference, rather than a weak, unpredictable, superficial support system. TJ can achieve his dreams w/ the all around package at UW--no doubt in my mind. But the Kentucky situation creates doubt in my mind and unpredictability if he'll click w/ his teammates, if Coach Cal will be there more than one more season, if he'll like Kentucky culture, if he will have a good trustworthy pal(s) to hang out with on and off the court, etc. Also LIFE IS NOT JUST ONLY ABOUT MONEY AND FAME. IT'S ALSO YOUR RELATIONSHIPS AND YOUR SPIRIT YOU DEVELOP and MAINTAIN THROUGHOUT YOUR LIFE. At the UW, he can have it ALL and that includes a great career in the NBA and a great life! Cheers!

whoever says rando is better than roy is plain stupid. roy is flat out better and ten times the leader rando is. playing 8 days after surgery on a torn meniscus. he is a winner. rando is good, but not like roy.

  • Tony - 14 years ago

Hate to say it, this kid likes to be the center of attention. Terrence Jones neededs to be at UK. If it's attention he wants then Kentucky is a perfect fit. Not a true player who is true to his word, hopefully this will end soon though, would be quite funny though to see UK take two players away from UW in one year though. It won't matter in the long run, he will be in the NBA in a year anyways, just who gets to "borrow" him for a year. Too bad we can't see these kids play for at least 2 years. I think though he will drag it out and sign a FA sheet so he is not bound to a team. Like a Brandon Knight that way if Coach Cal leaves for the NBA he can leave UK. How though could either school be so worried about getting him, he is not what you want in a player and this whole process should show both schools that. By the way Rondo any day over Roy, it's all about Rings and Rondo is the new leader in Boston. As for the the first comment on this page by Mary....get real it's not about all that....it's a business.... it's about money and fame no one cares about all those emotions.

  • LAisMyLady - 14 years ago

Either way, TJ is going to the pros. No matter where he plays. But at least at the UW, he'll get a much better education and be a far more well rounded individual for the rest of his life. Take that one to the bank, TJ.

  • Don - 14 years ago

If a better offer becomes available how long will it take coach Cal to jump ship. The UW and coach Romar are on the same page. Something to think about.

  • yeti - 14 years ago

Badly designed poll. Not sure what you are trying to accomplish. Suggest you find a way to only count votes from people who have registered before TJ's press conference. My guess is that many people in the negative categories will be UK trolls.

  • Kevin - 14 years ago

Last time I checked Rajon Rondo and Tayshaun Prince have rings, how many does Roy have? Also I'd rather have Rondo than Roy any day. I will give Roy his due however, he is a good player, just not as good as Rondo.

  • J.C. - 14 years ago

Isn't it funny how a school like UW can even think they can play on the same level as UK. If it was such a "great" pick then would he have had second thoughts??? Plain and simple if UW was that great there wouldn't be any drama, he would be signed. Get over it!!!!! There are elite schools in college basketball, and UW isn't one of them. So to even put yourself in the same discussion as UK...win some national titles, bring in some top recruting classes and put 24,000 fans in the seats...even in bad years..... your not KU, your not Duke, or UNC. So like them, love them, or hate them, UK will always be that school on top. I don't like them, but there are few teams out there that would not have traded their season to that of Kentucky this year. You can't argue if your a kid seeing 5 players go from one school in the first round. Come on did you watch Orton this year...a first rounder?? Only at UK. so if Jones comes to UW then great. But don't hate UK if he dosen't. It's not the same and you will NEVER be UK. Get used to it, many in college basketball have. If you want to see the passion go to a UK message board!!! Like I said I don't care for either school, you at UW just need to see the light and see yourself for what you really are...you are nothing close to UK. Don't speak as if you are a elite, you will never be.

  • maddog - 14 years ago

What the heck is there to do in Kentucky... play hoops, play the banjo and look around the hose for Momma's teeth again... Kentucy has a good bbal program, but they are still a bunch of skeeters....

  • Brian - 14 years ago

Last time I checked, the best player in the NBA from either Kentucky or UW is Brandon Roy so saying that UW doesn't produce and help flourish NBA talent is just wrong.

  • John - 14 years ago

Big UW fan and with hopes that TJ becomes a DAWG. But, he seems to think he's bigger than either school. Come on Mom and Dad, where are you in all this?

  • Wayne Tulk - 14 years ago

Hey, it's up to him. The pressure and attention given to these young men still in high school is obscene. He said he'd come of the UW. Great! If he changes his mind, then best of luck to him. He is lucky to have some great choices.

I hope he goes to the UW, but it's his decision and his life.

  • jp3030 - 14 years ago

If for one moment you think that T.Jones will not be noticed if he choose to attended UW, well then you are crazy! Case in point Charles Garcia, Seattle U. who is being considered a first round pick! It doesnt matter where you play nowadays if you got game they will find you!!!!!!!!!! As for anyone who trash talks Terrance, every one must believe a person's word, unless they have already proven themselves not reliable; and Terrence Jones hasn't done anything to prove that he won't honor his verbal commitment!! Go Dawgs!!!!!!

  • BaNos - 14 years ago

Let's be serious here... Neither Kentucky nor UDub will get Jones drafted any higher... His talent will speak for itself.. NBA scouts aren't that obtuse. Now does he want to play closer to home.. and fit into a team with veteran talent that will have a legit shot at the Final 4.. or join a team that while full of talent will have no experience playing together nor playing in March? Not to mention a coach in Lorenzo Romar who will be like a father figure to him.. and is honest.

IMO it is a no brainer... TJ Come and help the DaWgs get to the Final 4... and take your shot at winning it... then consider sticking around for one more yr... you might like it!!

  • Rico - 14 years ago

Gee, didn't UK fall short of a NT last year with a "riduculous recruiting class"? Most of them are gone now, to be replaced by another "ridiculous recruiting class" that's again bound to fall short simply because if for no other reason they won't have enough time together.

UW or Revolving Door U. Your choice.

  • Joe_L - 14 years ago

    Rich, brilliant recruiting tactic.

You might add that as long as Coach Cal is at the helm, PSAs will be pushed out of the nest after one year (whether you're really ready or not), and you will have World Wide Wes and his connections to take care of you. It's really not a university, but a D-league NBA prep opportunity. I mean, why not just say it?

    I guess I'm "just jealous." ;-)

  • Rich - 14 years ago

UW is a great school and has a decent basketball program...but seriously...if T. Jones has NBA dreams, then UK is the obvious program to go to...

Over half of UK's regular season games will be broadcast on either ESPN or CBS...

UK also led the nation (again) in fan attendance. That makes it 14 of the last 15 years...

Add that to the ridiculous recruiting class coming into UK next year, Brandon Kninght, Doron Lamb, Enes Kanter, Stacey Poole. T. Jones would be playing for an SEC championship and a National Championship for sure.

Terrence Jones will play in front of 24,000 screaming fans every night and he'll get more NBA scout exposure at UK than at any other school...

You know a poll like this is going to get responses from non-Husky fans...so you have to take the results with a BIG GRAIN OF SALT!

UW is the best all round package for Terrence Jones to go to: (1) Coach Romar is great on and off the court and will be a great role model and father-figure for life! You can't buy this type of a relationship, but it's a free gift to you. (2) UW is on the rise and T.J. can help make it happen and history to go all way for a National Championship b/c there is definitely great talent and a deep bench. UW has been leading the Pac-10. (3) T.J. will be surrounded by good, close family and friends, great teammates, new friends, many from the Pacific NW who. To do both basketball and academics you need a solid support system to help you achieve your dreams. If you are ever have difficulties, you'll have your support group close to you to be of help. (4) Relationships like w/ your good bud Terrence Ross is unique and worth appreciating and experiencing as good bros, along w/ the rest of the UW team members who are all ready your bro family who you can share a lot w/on and off the court for life. (5) You don't need to go to Kentucky create your dreams when it is right in your backyard at UW. You will all ready have a strong and solid start going to the UW. At Kentucky, you'll BE ALONE over there--no family and good friends who you can share your joys and also difficult times. You don't know if you'll be able to click w/ your teammates and Kentucky folks. Your home is not Kentucky and it will only be temporary and short-lived. There's no solid and strong base going alone to Kentucky to try to achieve a possible dream there. What if you end up not liking it there? Will you transfer? Then you delay your basketball progress by sitting out for a year. Don't try to reach for the stars ALONE from a weak support system of temporary fans, no close friends & family, a coach who is only a coach, etc. (6) At UW you start off running from a solid base to achieve your dreams and there's a safety net that will help you get right back up and keep running. You will no doubt make a great mark at the UW, highly recruited into the NBA. You will get national attention b/c you will make it happen through your smarts, hardwork, talent, and teamwork from a strong support system. There is no doubt in my mind UW is the best all round package that you will enjoy experiencing, sharing, growing, and becoming all you can be. Enjoy the Pacific NW--lots to do w/ people you love and STILL can become a CHAMP!
