Did Jacob lie to Kate about why she wasn't a candidate?

Don't think he lied. Maybe 'Kwon' just reffered to Jin, not Sun. In both cases the 'mother' role may be now in the hands of Claire and Sun's respective mothers; thus this is why Kate is still eligable (and possibly Sun was as well).

He didn't lie, but he didn't tell the whole truth either. Two options:

    1) In the same way that Jacob wanted Jack to be the candidate all along (but that he wanted him to choose for himself), he wants Kate to stay on the island with Jack and guard the light with him. Now that Claire can "cross over" to the Alt and be with still-to-be-born Aaron, Kate will no longer be a mother, and she has nothing but prison to look forward to in her Alt life. Like Alt-Jack, Alt-Kate will succumb to the sickness and die in the Alt, but remain on the island. Jack and Kate will then move the island and the light to the alt world, and the 815-crash world will collapse.

    2) Similar, but Kate alone will be left to guard the island. Jacob, exercising a spot of reverse psychology, and understanding Kate well, perhaps knew that the best way to motivate Kate was to exclude her from the list. Now that Jack has David, he has a reason to live on in the Alt world, but Kate has nobody, no constant. Jack will come to the brink of death in the Alt as a result of his neck-bleed sickness, but Kate will make the decision on-island to be the sole guardian of the flame. Jack will quickly recover in the alt, but Kate will then die in his place. Kate will then move the island alone to the Alt, leaving the 815-crash world to collapse as before.

    Kate's last words? "It Worked..."
