If I write or post something, I do it with the intent to share. Therefore, having the option to opt out fits my situation just fine.

I really don't understand the big deal. The controls are there. People need to start taking responsibility for there own privacy controls! Face book is not the only site that does this.Do you expect every site to decide what what privacy decisions are right for you. Personally I check privacy control on any site that has them whether it's an opt in or an opt out and set them to what I want. Now if they didn't have the controls there then I would understand the upheaval. It is time for everyone to stop expecting goverment, buisnesses or whoever decide what you want and just trust that to be the right thing for you. Facebook is the place you are attacking today, when they give you what you want who are you going to move on to next?

FB should always put the Privacy of it's members 1st. With all the changes that have occured since FB started, FB have never listened 2 what the Members wanted till now, is it 2 little, 2 late 4 some??

Put your actions where your words are Facebook. Your words say "privacy is important to us", your actions don't back that up. And do not assume that I want your wonderful new view to color my world. This is America where we not only expect freedom to make choices, we demand them!

"Opt-out" is a passive-aggressive method of cowards who don't think people will agree to "opt-in".

our privacy should be first and automatic, let us decide for ourselves what becomes public

You said it Aldric! If FB wants us to continue on here they MUST protect our privacy! When I joined it was paramount or so it seemed...now it's a free for all! DON'T LIKE THAT they make decisions and don't post for us to see we have to find out from friends on FB! BS...FB...!!!!

Privacy first... Profits later... trust MUST be earned...

I agree with Robert Johns, the privacy should always be there FIRST. we should not have to go un-check something we don't want shared. It should start un-checked, so that WE can choose which of OUR things will be shared with others. FACEBOOK should not ASSUME we want EVERYTHING posted to EVERYONE ALL THE TIME.

Facebook. It has its uses, but sometimes it seriously takes the piss...

  • Robert Johns - 14 years ago

Defaults should always aim to protect privacy 1st & Facebook shouldn't make assumptions that are really just statements of intent to it's shareholders & business partners.
