The government must also drop taxes on cars (in the same staggered fashion as they are reducing the subsidy perhaps) at the same time, then its acceptable. Duties and Excise as well. Its ridiculous that you can buy a Malaysian car in Australia cheaper than it costs here when they have an import duty, GST and the freights cost put on it before selling in Australia when we have to pay more for a locally manufactured car here without the freight (and of course no import tax).

Corruption is everywhere, for example a set of boot that cost maybe RM10 for example will reach up to RM1000 when its sent to the government for claim purpose, what about all this wastage, all those is our tax payer money, all those is just the reason given by government to cut all subsidy and ignore their responsibility as a WAKIL RAKYAT. When government got a lot of money, and yet corruption is not eliminated then more and more wastage will happen. That means in other words the money saved from subsidy elimination will be used in more and more project that is not needed by rakyat hence its a wastage. How about the total of money spent in those minister salary and allowance, how about those money spent when there is an election, how much money has been spent by the government (our tax payer money) for those election. All this just rubbish to cut those subsidy, if they cut those subsidy i m sure the next general election we can say goodbye to BN already. We might need a new government (opposition) to gather more and more corruption case in the existing government. If there is no changes in government the existing government will think they are so powerful and can do whatever they want. We as a Malaysian citizen can bring you up, yet we can bring you down also. PEOPLE POWER !!

We've seen the effects when fuel is RM 2.70. Price of most goods are already adjusted upward to reflect it. Though fuel price went down to our current level, inflation does not reverse. So we've no issue at all paying market rate, just that when fuel price went up again then we will see more unjustified inflation citing fuel price increase as an excuse!

Subsidies can be reduced, but what about government wastage and corruption. If wastage and corruption could be mitigated, the government would probably save more than savings from reduced subsidies. If the government has the political will to cut subsidies then she must also have the political will to cut wastage and corruption. Many government projects are still dictated by political reality rather than socio-economic reality.
