Knowing how great & loving the individuals were/are that require this important service - Is knowing that the care workers are that much more important also.
We need to give a decent bouquet to where it is needed & deserved.

As others have mentioned, closing beds is NOT the answer. We have a rapidly growing group of seniors, as the 'Baby Boomer' generation ages, and moving beds to a large central area may be 'cost effective' now, but in the future it will simply mean opening more beds that have been closed. Also the difficulty that many families face having to travel extra distances to see loved ones in larger centres is an unnecessary factor. Our seniors deserve the best, after all, we would not have the standard of living we enjoy now if it weren't for the generations gone before us! Surely there is a better, more humane solution than closing beds!

Closing beds in the health district is not the answer. Although I do not work in the sun country health region, other district's,I'm sure, face the same types of frustrations. As an employee of another health district, we see first hand,up close and personal, the uneffective ways health districts try to save money. Our number one priority should be beneficial to our aging population. Do they not deserve better? I have seen first had the negative impact to these people when they are placed in one facility, waiting transfer to their home town facility. Confusion, depression, just to name a few. I wonder if the people that make these decisions have ever had a loved one shuffled around the district, till they can get back home where they deserve to be? I don't have the answer, but I do agree that the cuts are being made at the wrong end.....

I applaud Kevin Weedmark for his thorough reporting and his willingness to dig deeper and give the public the truth. This story needs more press in provincial papers as it is a systemic problem that exsists in all areas of the provience, not just Sun Country. I encourage Dale Easton and his supporters to continue the fight as thier voices need to be heard and those they represent deserve to be in thier home community. I find it deeply disturbing that the majority of the south east Sun Country Health paitents are having to go to Moosomin/Regina Qu'appelle HD to recieve services that they should be provided in thier own district. If I were a resident of the south east needing health care I would be deeply worried. It is quite obvoius that the ability of this Health region to provide nessisary care to its residents is in question as is evident by lack of Doctors and services in the south east. It is no wonder that Moosomin is overloaded, it is having to accomodate care for the entire south east corner in Sun Country's district. Prehaps shaving 110,000 dollars from management and eliminating a person holding a postion fraudlently would begin to restore some faith in management?
We believe that the recent decision to close beds at Deer View Lodge in Wawota is very unproductive. We already have a very long waiting list as has been the case for many years. My mother had to be placed at Lampman for several weeks before being able to return to Wawota. There is going to be many more of us 'baby-boomers' coming into the system in future years and I for one would prefer to be able to stay in the community that has been my home for most of my life. What ever the reason behind this decision, I strongly feel the 'cuts' are being made at the WRONG END , as usual. This decision seems to be "just another nail in the coffin" for our small towns, and we must rally around each other in getting this problem solved.
